Hi,
I just wanted to figure out whether I could record street numbers on a stroll through my neighbourhood. I got the data just fine, but JOSM won't run on my system (JWS says I need a higher version of Java) and Potlatch won't take waypoints. I can do this one by hand, but what do you wise owls suggest?

Can't you just upgrade your Java installation? What operating system are you running?
And do you mean Potlatch won't take your GPX track which is exclusively waypoints with no track data?

Java 1.4.2-03 running on a rather old linux system... Maybe my rather newly upgraded Ubuntu laptop will do better; I'll try.
Acutally, I tried to upload the GPX file onto traces, and it wouldn't upload at all. The failure email said "Found no good GPX points in the input data".

Yes the GPX importer doesn't like those but you can edit them through JOSM. You could hack the track itself so the importer will accept it but I think it's just easier to upgrade Java and use JOSM instead.

OK, thanks!

I do housenumbers, too. After time I noticed that it is better to write them down and to record a GPX just for uploading. http://walking-papers.org print it out b/w and write housenumbers in colours. Works fine for me :-)

thanks, good suggestion. What's your workflow for house-numbers? Is it well documented in the wiki?

So I updated my system, and now JOSM works. Testing...
