gps track import failure?

Posted by smash on 7 June 2008 in English.

wtf?
failed to import. Here's the error:

Mysql::Error: Unknown column 'gps_points.id' in 'field list': SELECT `gps_points`.id FROM `gps_points` WHERE (gpx_id = 122994) LIMIT 1

this is pretty odd because:
- just a few seconds ago there were plenty of people "pending" and now everyone is gone
- same setup, but suprinsingly this time the import fails
- sql error? shouldnt that be like "doh, your gpx file is fucked up, try again" and not like "aiiiieeeee! what the fuck is this gps_points.id thingie you ask me about?"

anyone knows anything? :)

It was a bug. It's fixed.

Now I received exactly the same error 4(!) times already this evening and tonight (June 07/08 - before and past midnight), it's most annoying and now I don't feel like contributing any more, although it used to be fun. I have a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX, I walk along the roads, transfer the recorded tracks with Garmin Mapsource to my PC and upload them to OSM. This worked fine and without any problems during the past 2 weeks (when I became OSM member). But since today this does not seem to work any more, instead I receive error messages with exactly the same "error message" as you do, lacking any reasonable explanation. No, OSM, thanks, I loved your idea but this is too much.

Update: I did a last try and uploaded exactly the same track once again (trial #5). Now, finally, after 4 refusals with incomprehensible "error messages", it was accepted. -> OSM should be more careful before applying intermediate builds on the fly, containing such annoying bugs...

TvdB - you are welcome to volunteer as a developer if you think you can do it better!

A server software upgrade didn't quite go as smoothly as expected, hence why there was a bug for a day. The GPS import can be a little flakey at times. At least now you do get a list of the tags and description that you used to submit the form, which you wouldn't have previously.
