only a few weeks ago an app for Android devices has been published called ZANavi.

See osm.wiki/ZANavi (It is based on osm.wiki/Navit)

some outstanding features may be:

realtime vector rendereing of OSM data -> no download of tiles needed.

map data can be downloaded over the air or via PC to store it offline on your phone.

Quite nice routing engine that can process turn restrictions.

No dealing with parameter file navit.xml

So all android users who are looking for a navigation app can try this, find bugs in ZANAvi or even core Navit, and find out the difference between them.

Cool. I've been using MapDroyd as it was the only free software with offline vector maps. Pity I have only 1.6 on my phone so I can't use ZANavi.

Took a look at it yesterday. It still is in an alpha state and needs a lot of work before becoming usable or even a competition for google maps / navigation.

But it's a start and I'm happy that there is someone working on a mobile routing software based on OSM. Thumbs up and good luck!

From what I know you can even make your own rendering style for this which is a HUGE advantage to MapDroyd (which is nice but could be so much better for pedestrians).

Also look at Osmand, which is better for walking and map viewing (also uses off line vector maps).

Navit (didn't try ZANAvi) is okay for driving. It works, calculates, etc. But does not look pretty.
