149548989 | over 1 year ago | Hello, Welcome to OpenStreetMap, otherwise known as OSM! It is great to have you as part of our community. Thanks for your edits to the map, and for providing a changeset comment - that is important. Unfortunately, when editing OSM we cannot use Google Maps due to Google's terms of use. Also, names in OSM should not be abbreviated. |
148391032 | over 1 year ago | Thanks for the nice reply. Redoing the edits "from scratch" using only sources acceptable to OSM would seem to be acceptable. |
149416920 | over 1 year ago | Google Maps terms of use make no distinction between use in the "strict sense" and regular "use", nor does it indicate that using it as a "supplemental source" is ok. It doesn't matter if "not a single edit would be different" if you had not used Google Maps, the fact is, you used it, and that is a violation of the terms of use. There was nothing wrong with the wording in your changeset source. You were honest and admitted that you used Google Maps. As a new user you can be forgiven for using Google Maps, but reinstating the edits once you have been made aware of the facts is a different matter. |

148391032 | over 1 year ago | Thanks for your edit to the map, and thanks for citing your sources - that is important. Unfortunately, when editing OpenStreetMap we are not allowed to use Yelp. Yelp's terms of service state, in part, "...you may not sell, license, copy, publish, modify, reproduce, distribute, create derivative works or adaptations of, publicly display or in any way use or exploit any of the Yelp Content in whole or in part ..." |
149111630 | over 1 year ago | @w0x0f, I am responding here to your direct message, in which you suggest that because you have now found another source your original edit is ok. The issue here is not whether or not your edit reflects reality, nor whether you can find another source that agrees with your edit. The issue is whether or not you used Yelp in making your original edit, which, based on the source you cited, you did. Therefore you have violated Yelp's terms of use. Among other things, it is not ok to use Yelp to find potential edits, and then use that information to search for other sources in order to make an edit. The revert should not be reverted. |

149111630 | over 1 year ago | Hello, Thanks for your edit to the map, and thanks for citing your source. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to use Yelp, which was cited a source for this changeset, when editing OpenStreetMap. Per Yelp's terms of use: "...you may not sell, license, copy, publish, modify, reproduce, distribute, create derivative works or adaptations of, publicly display or in any way use or exploit any of the Yelp Content in whole or in part ..." |
