First experience with Open Street Map

Publicado por the_big_blue el 12 marzo 2014 en English. Última actualización en 18 marzo 2014.

I do not have any previous experience using Street Map. I only just learned about it a few days ago but was very intrigued by the fact that anyone could alter and improve the map. I looked at different areas of the world which I was curious about in terms of how developed each was (i.e: Spain, Bulgaria, England, Island of Cyprus) Some of the changes I made were: -Named the Administration Building, the Science Building, Burk Hall, the Quad, the Softball field and Lot 25 on Winston Dr -Added Village Centennial Market, Thornton Hall building (however someone modified it), Swimming Pool in Gymnasium, gym in Leasing office building, Malcolm X Plaza and SFSU Bookstore; SFSU Planetarium Observatory; Hall of fame photo collage in GYM building; waterfall column and the secret garden. Changeset can also be viewed through this link: osm.org/user/the_big_blue/history#map=16/37.7248/-122.4797 One difficulty I had was tracing an existing building because it is not perfectly geometric.

hi and welcome.

You can try and download JOSM and make edits from there, personally, i find it more efficient

Hi, and welcome in!

Your edits look good.

By the way, in one note you mention a “roof piece” - you can use building=roof if you want to tag a roof piece with no building underneath it. No pressure though ;)

(JOSM is a complex tool. I use it, but I also like the online editors because they’re much simpler to use.)
