Export data from OSM to a GPS device?

waluyo님이 English로 2009년 10월 6일에 게시함.

Hi,

I am quite new to OSM. I managed yesterday to import a GPS track to OSM and was able to draw a few trails I walked on this last weekend.
But now, I was wondering if it was possible to export data from OSM to my GPS?

I saw that you can export maps as an image (jpeg, png...) but is it possible to export anything else that can be read by a GPS?

I have an eTrex Legend HcX. I am starting to use it and don't know all its functionnalities. I don't think the GPS device is able to read image files, but maybe something else?
Please let me know if you can help me.

Thanks!
Sincerely,

Xav'

PS: why isn't it possible to register anymore on the OpenStreetMap forum?

You have garmin images using the osm data
osm.wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download

PS. not need to register, you can use your osm username and password

Thanks for your comment, Celso!
Very nice from you.

I indeed arrived to this website fredericbonifas.free.fr (for french maps) while looking for info on the web. I am currently downloading one map and will try soon.
Thanks for your link. It confirms me that I was on the right direction ;)
+ it gives a very clear description of what to do with the downloaded file.
Thanks a lot for your precious help!

I will try and let you know about the result on this post.

Ok! it works perfect!
Thanks a lot!

Just another question if you are still reading:
How can I read maps of 2(or more) different countries. I believe that if the file is not called gmapsupp.img, it won't work...
Is this possible for example to have maps of Finland, Sweden and Norway all in the same micro SDcard?

Yes you can combine multiple maps into one gmapsupp.img using mkgmap. See osm.wiki/Mkgmap

An Old Post of mine ( I have a Legend HCX )

Took me two days to work out how to convert an OSM map in JOSM into the Garmin IMG format - it is easy when you know how ( and this is just one free method of many ).

Download into JOSM the area you are working on or wishing to update or just want to have a map of in your Garmin. Export the area as an OSM file. Use Mkgmap to convert the OSM into a Garmin IMG file and copy the IMG file onto the GARMIN Micro SD Card:\garmin\gmapsupp.img ( Windows users ).

This allows you to have the current OSM basemap of the area that you need in your Garmin so that you can see what has and more importantly what has yet to be logged in your area - especially in towns and cities which are a challenge.

Mail me if you need further assistance

cheers bri

Premade maps can be found there, too:

osm.wiki/All_in_one_Garmin_Map
There's a German map and one of Europe. It shows lot of details like postboxes or OpenStreetBugs.

http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php
It is worldwide. Just select the tiles you want to download.
