OpenStreetBugs Phase out ... progress

werner2101님이 English로 2013년 10월 27일에 게시함.

this is a follow up to my last blog post osm.org/user/werner2101/diary/20213 about OSB phase out.

Things happend in the last two weeks:

The bug count has been reduced by 3000 bugs in the last two weeks, other mappers have started to review bug entries in different places (Philipines, Ireland, England, Germany …). Thank you.

But … who is still adding so many bugs to the database?

new bugs

Oh, someone creates bugs with bulk uploads.

Looking into the database, the new bugs look like this.

Wow, 11 new bugs in 5 seconds. Looks like someone is using OSB to collect mapping notes ….

Where are all the newly created bugs? Currently the open bug distribution created after 2013-10-01 looks like this:

  • [RU] 1811
  • [DE] 341
  • [BY] 23
  • [NL] 17
  • [PL] 16
  • [FR] 13

After disabling the OSB homepage 2013-10-15 looks like this:

  • [RU] 716
  • [BY] 22
  • [DE] 5
  • [IT] 3

Looks like the only major creator of new bugs lives in Russia / Moscow.

PS:

Please fix as many bugs as possible in your city, your county, country, …

Have you tried announcing the change / asking who it is on the http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=21?

I have written a blog post in Russian about OSB phase-out. It seems http://openstreetmap.ru/ still uses OSB for reporting bugs. I’ll contact its maintainers today.

Realizing a little time ago that I’m the single biggest map notes contributor I ‘d like to share a thought regarding essentially map notes but possibly related to the continued creation of OSM bugs.

I love both systems. Seriously, they are fantastic. I collected so much data that I have never (=yet) uploaded - - before I started using OSM bugs (thanks to OsmAnd making it easy to use OSM bugs and then map notes) - - that it still bugs me… The process /work flow with osmb and map notes is just that critical bit easier.

Now. Having covered areas in Haiti and Nicaragua with osmb and map note pins / dots a couple of times (until later cleaning the areas up) I’ve come to think that it would be great if we had better ways to filter map notes (e.g hide notes from certain account or show only anonymous, etc). Also, showing only contributions from certain users would be great - or filtering by text string.

Now, this might have to do with some mappers continuing to use osb through the thought that maybe they don’t want to “spam” the map for all? .. Or then they simply haven’t updated their OsmAnd (.. Perhaps more likely?)..

Anyways, just my quick thoughts. And big thanks to all who have participated in creating these wonderful tools!

It seems that the new Bugs are created by an instance of Osmand.

But I am quite sure that there has been an change in Osmand’s features that in recent Osmand versions, newly created bugs are sent to OSM notes.

So I assume that someone is using an old version of Osmand to create old-school OSM-Bugs ???

What about disabling the OpenStreetBugs API about the creation feature?

@stephan75: I think the phase out should be done step by step.

Disabling the API will affect all programs, apps and websites that use the OSB API. If they’re not well designed, disabling the api might crash that tools.

Here’s a list of tools that still uses OSB API: osm.wiki/Openstreetbug#Tools_for_Using_and_Exporting_Data

@ jaakkoh: At github there is already a request for filtering OSM notes.
Besides, maybe you want to have a look at JOSM’s todo-plugin?
