How can we recover and how to find out what happened?

Go into Potlatch ('Edit') for the area in question. Press 'U' for undelete. You'll see it reappear as a red line. Select it, then click the little padlock at the bottom to unlock, and deselect to upload it again.

you deleted it yourself at 2008-06-27T20:49:48+01:00.

robx already restored it.
I did't know about or used the undelete or history feature.
Maybe it will help other users too.
