It isn't allowed to use google maps for editing the openstreetmap! Have a look at the term of use from google: http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/help/terms_maps.html and http://www.google.com/intl/en-us/help/legalnotices_maps.html

Sry as efred says: IT IS ILLEGAL

If you want to compare different maps (for QA) have a look at http://sautter.com/map/

Hi, i'm having the same problem... Yahoo imagery has not enough zoom to allow me drawing over it. How can i add and edit the streets of my town if there is no proper satellital imagery background? i can't draw on an empty space.. so please help...

OSM is an outdoor activity. Aerial (or satellite) imagery is used where the collection of GPS track is impossible, e.g. when mapping the contours of houses. So go grap a GPS reveiver which can log your path and start walking / riding / driving. After you have mapped the layout of the roads you can add POIs, e.g. setting waypoints on your GPS or using walking papers' excellent service. So stop armchair mapping and whining and get to know the real OSM.

Using Google images is illegal! Better do NOTHING than copying from Google!!!

dear friends thank you for all, but I find the way to solve this prob, well I take that illegal map get it as a layer and sketch the road and the street, as you say I wish that I have time to left my armchair drive 400 km get GPS, drive thru the town, sorry lads I don't have time for that, I'm helping my country and people who's living here, thanks to god I'm doing anything, if you going to visit this country you'll start to curse my country cause there is no GPS data..

The problem with using images without permission is that the copyright holder could get a court order to destroy the openstreetmap project if if his maps or images are copied. So by tracing images or maps without permission endangers the whole project.

By the way, it looks like you are from Bosnia & Herzegowina. It appears there is highres Yahoo! imagery available for Sarajevo at least.
