Hi there. I see you are mapping based on road running apps such as CityStrides or SF. We welcome your edits but do not welcome your marking certain roads a private to get them to show up on those apps. I am a fellow street runner and have crossed off a few jurisdictions around me so I know exactly how this works. I’d ask you to respect other mappers that add photos and undeniable content showing a road a private. You should not attempt to alter the meaning of a road’s access or geometry to make it show up better in your running app of choice. Here is an example of where you’ve edited something clearly marked as private back to a permissive status. That is unacceptable. Any gated road in OSM should be marked private, including military bases, private neighborhoods, etc.

Further, OSM is not a “test bed” for your experimental edits. Data here is consumed by millions around the world in real time. You should not make an edit just to ‘test’ a theory. If you have questions about what is viewable in CS or SF, both developers are active in the OSM community and would field any questions you have.

This block will expire after you’ve read it and serves as a warning that continuance of these behaviors could result in a suspension of editing privileges.

Best,

Elliott Plack
