Dear users Yulia Litvinova, Yuliya Grinevich, audit_team, Aliona22, Alya___, Bogdanaaa, Katerina97 -
you seem to be engaged in editing hotel details on OpenStreetMap as part of your job.
This means that the guidelines at https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Organised_Editing_Guidelines apply to your work. These guidelines mean that you must be transparent about whom you are working for. You cannot simply make an OSM account under your private name, or a made-up name, and not tell us who your boss is.
Please update your OSM user profile (osm.org/profile/edit) with a text that explains which company you are working for and what their interest in OpenStreetMap is, and what data sources you’re using in your work. Your user profile should also contain an email address of the person responsible for OSM mapping so that we can contact them if there are problems.
In the future, when editing hotels, please make sure that you NEVER add advertising copy to OSM (“Discover our inviting resort-like retreat where every room is unique and each stay is unforgettable” and so on), as this is not factual information and has no place in OSM).
Property names can also fall under this rule if they come close to advertising on the map. Don’t use a name like “The Compton Inn Garden View Exclusive Luxury Resort” - it’s “The Compton Inn” in OpenStreetMap and the rest can go into “official_name” if it needs to. The same is true for place names; do not put a place name into the hotel name. The map tells us where the hotel is; we do not need all hotels in New York to be called “The so-and-so New York”.
When contributing to OpenStreetMap, always specify the source of your information, and when other mappers ask you questions or make you aware of problems with their mapping - as in osm.org/changeset/147079434 - you are expected to respond to that message.
This message blocks your accounts until you have read the message. You can continue mapping after that, but if you do not comply with the requirements above and continue mapping, then this account may be blocked for longer and all your past contributions may be removed.
Please also forward this message to your manager and to other colleagues who might not have received it; my above requests are valid for any and all organised mapping, not only for the seven accounts that receive this message.
Thank you
Frederik Ramm
