Hello idkwhatname2use,
You appear to be arguing with another user about whether some railway features in California exist or not. Apparently, you believe that osm.org/way/8931411 (which is Highway 1) is part of a railway route “Ocean Shore Railway”. I can help resolve this - I’ve driven along that stretch many times (and actually walked along part of it it, a couple of dozen years ago). There is no railway.
Apparently, there was a railway here about 100 years ago. If you look at some of the alignments off Kelly Avenue in Half Moon Bay you could just about justify a “railway=abandoned” section there. Elsewhere (including on the stretch of Highway 1 above) you certainly couldn’t. Also, there certainly is no “railway route” through there now. Looking at the imagery, I don’t think you can justify anything west of Cameron’s at osm.org/relation/17219339#map=16/37.4440/-122.4339 either - development there suggests no “ex-railway easement” on the alignment you have used.
If you have suitably licenced sources (and given how long ago it stopped operating I’m sure you will be able to find some) then adding the route to OpenHistoricalMap would be an excellent idea.
You will naturally want to discuss this block. Please email data@openstreetmap.org with a subject line of “[Ticket#2024070810000651] Former railways in Half Moon Bay”. When you promise not to make this kind of edit again we will revoke this block.
Best Regards,
Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM’s Data Working Group.
Edit: This user has assured the DWG that they won’t do this kind of revert again. We have asked them to make the case for including some of the ways that they want to add in the US forum at https://community.openstreetmap.org/c/communities/us/78 on a case by case basis.
