Dear user Engineer0088397,

you are using the “name” tag in OpenStreetMap for things it is not intended for.

Other users have tried to point out these problems to you, and the DWG has made you aware of the issue many months ago in osm.org/user_blocks/5580 - we blocked your account three times hoping that you would finally get the message.

But only in the last 6 months, you have added hundreds of objects to OSM with names that are unsuitable. I will give a few examples:

• “so-and-so residence”, “so-and-so family”, “so-and-so home” - we don’t add the names of people living in a building to OSM, even if they are prominent.
• “Submerged_Water_Pipeline”, “12VDC Converter to 220V”, “Landfill”, “Seasonal_Grass”, “Mountain_Top” - these are not names, but descriptions. You need to find proper tags to tag these things, you cannot use the name field for that. (Also, don’t use underscores in names.)
• “Adam Fried Ribs and other Food Stuff”, “Steep down warning” - these sound like you were taking notes while mapping, they should not find their way into the map.
• “iNternational_Caravansaries_(AsianHighway)_(planned)”, “Planned (Typhoon) Emergency Evacuation Area” - there are special tags to add planned features, don’t put that into the name.
• “Ghosts Heroes Conference Hall?? kidding”, “checking 15.5 psi Air Pressure.AtmosphericPressure..goingLowUpwardsLessGravity..SeaLevel@16..psi” - I don’t even know what these are supposed to mean but we certainly don’t want that on the map either.

I will now revert about 280 of the most obvious name tag abuses from the last 6 months; sadly you have been doing this for longer, and I will certainly miss a few of these problematic edits. Also these errors are by far the only ones; you are using other tags in ways that are unsuitable. You are causing extra work for the data working group and other mappers who have to clean up after you.

Again this time, other mappers have made you aware of the problems via changeset comments that have generated emails to you, see https://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussion-comments?uid=12390218 - yet you are ploughing on with complete disregard of the problems you are causing, in one case adding a description tag of “sorry for the changeset, we pass by car anywhere, from the milkan way galaxy”.

I am now blocking your account until you write to data@osmfoundation.org (please refer to Ticket#2024091010000026 in the subject) confirming that you have read this message as well as the messages that other mappers sent you (see link above), and that you * intend to reply to these messages * will read and reply to future messages from other mappers * heed the recommendations that others have made * use the name tag for actual names of things only, and not for the cases outlined above. If you send us such an email then we will unblock your account.
