This appears to be an account created in order to avoid discussing edits with the Spanish community. See https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/dudas-varias-sobre-la-toponimia-en-las-regiones-de-espana-y-dibujo-del-mapa/121272 for some of that history.
Much of this block text is repeated from previous messages to different accounts created by the same user.
Hello again,
Andy from OSM’s Data Working Group here.
You have created multiple accounts to make changes to names. There is discussion ongoing in https://community.openstreetmap.org/c/communities/es/51 ; creating a new account to make the same changes again is simply not appropriate.
One example is https://map.atownsend.org.uk/maps/osm-deep-history/#/way/912159005 . I’d expect you to be able to make the case in the forum discussion that here “Cementerio Municipal de Mazaleón” makes more sense than “Cementerio Municipal de Mazaleón / Cementiri Municipal de Massalió” in the name tag. However, I suspect that you’d find it difficult to jusify your removal on “name:XX” language name tags - that literally means that “no one refers to that place by that language name” which the last few years in OSM disproves quite conclusively.
The use of multiple names in the “name” tag varies across OSM - in multilingual areas of the UK it is very rare; in Belgium very common. Most sensible maps will of course use one of either name:es or name:ca to show to users; they will just ignore the “name” tag altogether. The “standard” map at osm.org does use the “name” tag from OSM data, but that is (for many other reasons other than this) not a good example of how to process OSM data.
If you have any questions for the Data Working Group please email data@openstreetmap.org with a subject line of “[Ticket#2025052910000149] Mazaleón 2”, but what is more important is that you do join in the forum discussion - what would really help would be evidence (photographic and otherwise) that supports your point of view.
Best Regards,
Andy
