Dear Mars-Curaçao,

three years ago we wrote to you:

Please don’t use abusive language in changeset comments or changeset discussion comments, either specifically targetted (as you were previously warned about) or more general (such as osm.org/changeset/35937742).

Sadly, many of your changeset comments since then are abusive again, e.g.

  • “WTF , I get crazy of beginners who f*ck with the map and destroy my navigation app!”
  • “wtf are you doing on MY island???”
  • “Since what day this street has another name again?????? The 3rd streetname in lees than 1 year? I live in Curaçao and I get very tired off (foreign) people who makes a lot of mistakes in the map because I can correct them everytime..”
  • “Hey man you are just a beginner, do you live on Korsou?? Don’t f**k with the roads!!”
  • “Those @$$holes of the KG ground sh*t drive me grazy”

Your contributions as a local mapper are really valuable and we are happy to have you. Language like that, however, is inacceptable. There’s no place for “fuck” (abbreviated or not), “shit”, or “assholes” in changeset comments, and your paranoia about “foreigners” modifying the map is unwarranted. And as for beginners - everyone is a beginner at some point!

If you feel that organised mappers are inappropriately modifying the map in your region, and if you cannot clear up the matter with them personally without resorting to expletives, you can always email data@osmfoundation.org and explain the issue, and we will look into it.

Since this is the second time we have to ask you to be more polite, I am going to block your account for 48 hours. To be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with explaining mistakes to other mappers or, if they make too many mistakes, to question their sources or ask them to be more diligent. But not with the words you have chosen.

The mappers you have issues with want to improve the map just like you do. We’re all on the same team here. Try to work with them, not against them. As a local, you will alway know better, but please try to communicate that knowledge in a helpful and not a disdainful way.

Best regards
Frederik Ramm
