Dear Josh Baumgartner,

thank you for your contributions to OSM. You have greatly improved some airports like e.g. Aktau. However, in doing so you have deleted many parts of the airport that existed before, only to replace them with similar ones that you drew yourself. If you zoom in on your changes here

https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=65087188

you’ll find quite a few yellow lines (newly added by you) directly adjacent to a red line (deleted by you).

I understand that it can often be simpler to just drop the old stuff and re-do from scratch, however in doing so you also drop the history of the object; now if someone clicks on an airport feature it shows as “newly added by joshbaumgartner in 2018” when in fact many objects were added by another user in 2013 - a credit that you have now taken away from that user.

Perhaps you can try just a little harder to keep existing objects, refining their geometries where necessary, instead of deleting and re-doing them. (Of course if something is totally out of touch with what’s on the ground then by all means delete it - I’m just talking about a taxiway that is maybe a few metres off which could easily be aligned properly.)

You received a complaint about this in osm.org/changeset/65070439 but you disregarded that complaint in your editing afterwards, hence I have reason to suspect that the e-mail message generated by that changeset comment might not have reached you, and I’m placing this “must read” message on your account. You’ll be able to continue editing immediately after reading it.

Your contributions are most welcome - even more so if you can avoid upsetting other community members ;)

Best regards
