in a recent message I asked you to please add changeset comments to your edits because other mappers often don’t understand your motivation or the reasoning behind your edits.

Since you continue to edit in the same vein, and without changeset comments, I repeat my request in this account-blocking message which you will have to read before you can continue mapping. Please comply with this request.

Secondly, in the future please respect the South Tyrol naming policy that the community has created, which is the following: The name tag should be “Italian Name - German Name” in regions with an Italian majority, and “German Name - Italian Name” in regions with a German majority. This is described on osm.wiki/Multilingual_names#Alto_Adige.2FS.C3.BCdtirol_.28South_Tyrol.29 together with a map showing which regions have which majorities. This map is mandatory until replaced by one based on newer official figures.

Of course you are welcome to add “name:it” tags to anything that has an Italian name - just the plain “name” tag inside South Tyrol must conform to that specification. A lot of your recent edits have violated these rules - changing the name to “Italian Name - German Name” even in regions with a German majority - and will be reverted. Under no circumstances should you change them back.

If you would like to discuss this policy with other mappers from South Tyrol, please join the South Tyrol mailing list (https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it-southtyrol) where you can make your point (in Italian or German).

Local knowledge is valued highly in OpenStreetMap and we welcome yours. However, in situations where your knowledge contradicts seemingly well-established facts, we must ask you to supply a suitable proof or at least explain why you are deviating from the standard. For example, in your edit to this node osm.org/node/2508795633/history you changed the name of the Bolzano city quarter from “Don Bosco” to “San Giovanni Bosco” even though the linked Wikipedia article clearly speaks of “Don Bosco”, and the administration themselves use the email address “donbosco@comune.bolzano.it”. This is the type of edit that absolutely requires an explanation in the changeset comment, or it will be reverted.

There are a number of other edits where you have changed a street name from an Italian version frequently found on the web to a more obscure one; this is not necessarily wrong but you owe it to your fellow mappers to explain it to them instead of trying to “overrule” them.

Please respect these rules. Your contributions about Italian names are a welcome and valuable addition to OpenStreetMap and they will improve the map of South Tyrol, but they must harmonise with the community or they will be lost.
