Changeset discussions and problematical edits:

Over the last few months I’ve asked you (as a local GB mapper) about a number of questionable edits in England and Wales. I have never had a reply to any of these changeset discussions from you.

Three months ago, on behalf of the OpenStreetMap Data Working Group, I sent this message:

osm.org/user_blocks/606

In that I said “OpenStreetMap is a shared database. We all collectively benefit from the data that we all individually add to it. Unfortunately, if people add duplicates, misnamed or misplaced things, it devalues the hard work of the people who have previously added valid data”. I also asked that “You use meaningful changeset comments explaining how any why you know that the edits are valid”.

Last week I sent you another OSM message, asking the same thing, and also asked for clarification of a recent changeset:

osm.org/changeset/31374414

(the osm.org/user_blocks/606 message contains a list of links to previous questions about edits)

No reply was received.

It is important that you don’t just ignore other mappers as you have been doing. Please, when you start editing again, do follow all of the requests made in:

osm.org/user_blocks/606

It’s important that, as a community, OpenStreetMap mappers work together. This means that we need to communicate with each other and reply to each others messages. As I said before, if you don’t abide by these rules you will be stopped from editing OpenStreetMap again.

If you’ve got any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me or anyone else in OSM’s data working group by email to data@osmfoundation.org .

Best Regards,

Andy Townsend, on behalf of the OSM Data Working Group.
