Recently had occasion to travel to NE suburbs of Melbourne from Gippsland so I set myself some routes through the Dandenong Ranges to fill in some detail there. I've added Silvan Reservoir and finished the C424 from Launching Place down towards Pakenham, added the C411, C412. Filled in the missing sections of the C404 (still incomplete) & C415 as well as adding numerous smaller roads. Lots of work still required in the Dandenongs but the major roads are definitely taking shape.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Tuo pieneltä osaltaan Hämeenlinnan Kosovoksi nimetty laaja neljän erillisen asuinalueen tieverkosto on nyt 100%:sti ajettu ja siirretty kartalle. Samoin muutamia kuntoilupolkuja.

I'm spending several hours of my christmas holiday on mapping the Hämeenkylä and Pähkinärinne suburbs in Vantaa, Finland. Most of the main residential roads are now mapped. I'm still planning to trace down some more footpaths as well.

Trip Lengths : Varied from 2 to 600 miles Per day with the average trip over 450 miles.
Guestimate Milage covered : Hmm about 250,000+ miles, I'm a millon mile driver at this point in the game.

Biggest point set : Looked breifly at the confirmation emails, seen one that had 62000+ points. (Must have been tired and left laptop on for entire duration of time for that one.)

Converted and Uploaded GPX files will be deleted off my HD, I will continue to archive the GPL origonals as they contain more data then GPX format. Extra data like speed, heading, start and end times, start and end locals etc.. All data collected is now officially public domain. If you see a file I forgot to click public on, please message me. Happy holidays.

I've been mapping parts of Emmendingen while I'm here for the holidays. JOSM + camera is great! I need to get around to actually uploading my GPX traces -- currently I'm just loading them directly into JOSM.

Anyway, given there was hardly anything on the map before, I was quite surprised to find that another mapper is also working around here. Greetings! If a user turns up as 'anonymous' in the Potlatch history I assume this means their edits aren't public, right?

I have just bought a Garmin etrex device from ebay, along with all the necessary cables and attachments for putting it on my bike. I intend to fill in the gaps in the map for the mid Devon area and Exeter. I live in Thorverton, right in the middle of mid Devon, and I work on the outskirts of Exeter, so I'm just working my home territory.

I had some trouble working out how to get the tracks off my Garmin etrex at first, but finally got the settings correct on the device ("Garmin" only), and used the correct format for saving the file with gpsbabel. Now it is easy!

I discovered the same thing everyone seems to with these devices, that if you save a track on the device then detail is lost, so my first few tracks that I made and saved before downloaded to my PC were useless.

I'm not sure at the moment how to upload waypoints to OSM. I've been storing locations of Post Boxes and Churches as waypoints, and I'd like to include them in my mapping.

Noticed maning had mapped out all the streets in the San Antonio Village area, so I started filling in the road names. Guess maning has a GPS. I'm don't -- I just use maps / local knowledge to fill out the names.

Ship's Log
Star date : Dec 23, 2007,

With the help of Stage6.com I find the upload of my converted Delorme GPL tracks bearable. A 1.2 gig of uncompressed raw data upload spanning 3 years
all the while watching Starttrek TNG. Uploading one file at a time is a boring task. I tried to run a java script for a batch upload but there were errors. Wasted enough time just learning what had to be done to my data to donate it.
"Now get it done", I say to myself. I found the comment about not mapping in Chicago pretty funny. How does one get stopped for mapping anyways? I guess if your out walking around holding up a mobile GPS up to your face, then you might get noticed, however most log the streets in their car (could be wrong though).

Tried to fill in some roads here, but the Satellite data just isn't available on Yahoo. I'll come back and do this later.

Wonder if there's a way to import data from SVG files -- there's a useful one on Wikipedia of the DB area.

Spent a while 5 days ago filling in all the roads in Salcedo Village, Makati, Metro Manila. I was disappointed to see that the edits I made are not in the map yet when I went to show them off to someone.

I guess they have to be approved: what is the process for this? Well anyway I'll wait until Wednesday and see what happens.

Yesterday I arrived in my former home town Castrop-Rauxel, which in OSM is a white spot until now. I went there by bus, and I am happy to announce, that I could add big parts of the bus line NE 11 (Night Express Line) to the map.

I also noticed that there already were some roads, tagged as highway=residental. The value lacked the 'i' in residential, an thus they were not rendered at all in the map. This was one of the most common errors I made when I was beginning to map, and it seams as I'm not the only one.

I'm only here for a week and have other things to do, but I hope that Castrop will soon evolve as other cities in this area do.
