Good idea 💡 I think it can be simplified as 2 or 3 differents rendering:

3 renderings example: - small tree icon (diam<5) - medium (5<diam<10) - large (diam>10)

Or something like so.

Also have to think about not hiding objects under the trees while rendering: trash can, bench, drinking water, etc.

But yes, I agree that it could make the map more “alive” 🌳🌲

Since MapComplete switched to Panoramax, I created my own theme, which I named:

“POI that needs an image”.

So basically, I created many filters like “amenity=cinema” and “panoramax=”. And many others for theater, town hall, street art, place of worship, historic=*, etc.

MapComplete will show a lot of POIs that can benefit from a nice Panoramax image. In my town, I already added many pictures of sculptures, street art, etc. 📸🏙️

It’s very fun and allows contributors to walk around their place and contribute by adding pictures. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Hi Petons, have fun contributing in Latvia 😊

What I like to do is animated gifs to show before/after my contributions. To do so, I use Bigmap to make screenshot before contributing. So I save png files and bigmap url for each screenshot.

Then when I am done contributing, I create the animated gifs by assembling before and after screenshot. Find my commands to do it here.

Hi thomersch, thank for this article. I am still sad that OSM Cal does not feature a filter for “online” events. Allowing any mapper to attend remote/virtual event, based on spoken language and not location. My 2020 ticket: https://github.com/thomersch/openstreetmap-calendar/issues/44
