New Brighton State Beach

פורסם על־ידי Icycle ב־12 באוקטובר 2009 בEnglish.

Earlier this summer, I camped at New Brighton State Beach, in Capitola, California. I captured GPS tracklogs for the entire trip to and from the campsite, as well as some of my travels on the internal roads within the campsite.

While taking a look at the OSM rendering for New Brighton State Beach, I noticed that the existing internal roads in the park were significantly different from what I remembered, so I cleaned the up a bit, using my GPS tracklogs as reference. Due to the heavy tree cover in the area, it is difficult or impossible to use the satellite images for reference.

I was able to get things a little closer to reality, but it would probably be a good idea for someone to map out this park a little more thoroughly, because I know there are still some inaccuracies and omissions in the existing data.

Yeah, Santa Cruz county has always been tough because a good portion is covered with trees. There are still a lot of roads that are off. But we're making slowly but surely.

During the cycling season, I sometimes bike up in the mountain roads of Santa Cruz County with my GPS. I'll try to upload my tracklogs whenever I do so, since it seems like that could be a very useful resource for making these tree covered roads more accurate in OSM.
