License to OSM | @!i! horses for courses, it might be ok for some but the point of the exercise was to create something drivers license like, not a flier otherwise I would have just used the original flier funnily enough. :) |
JOSM can't do relations | !Vclaw, he probably hit the duplicate button instead of edit... |
Mapping streets as areas example by Roy | That make it almost impossible to navigate with once you start zooming out, so it'll be completely pointless on small devices like phones. |
Vancouver Winter Olympics | Is it possible to tell MKGMAP to ignore areas, instead of encoding them into garmin format? |
openstreetmap in local media | The link in the diary entry is to a facebook page, you can skip that by going direct to the site: |
Suburban footpaths? | Yes they should be mapped independent of roads, otherwise you are either not gather as much information as you could possibly get. Also footways don't always run parallel to a roadway. |
Metro Bike There! data progress report | You could code a little script with known node/way/relation IDs to check for changes to those objects, and basically track changes and once a week or so email a report some where. |
Making use of my work's vehicle tracking | Apart from Rhubarb's comment, I wouldn't use a personal account to upload all the track data, make a new "bot" account... |
Photogrammetry update | As per a comment on your previous entry, this would be better on the wiki that way others can help contribute etc. |
Idea for a OpenAddressDatabase staging area for OSM | I think what is trying to describe, is a DB of addresses, but free/open geocoding services are unable to provide co-ords. |
Photogrammetry | Wow... The only comment I have is you didn't include example pics that you fed into Bundler... |
identifying 'time' from gpx trail | There is also a IPv6 java bug, I wrote a diary entry about this. Also JOSM tends to be updated frequently and you should get the newer stable version from JOSM's website. |
Khammam town | There is a number of apps for Nokia phones, check out this wiki page: osm.wiki/Making_Tracks_with_Homebrew-ware#Mobile_Phones_.2F_Symbian |

OSM getting blasted, time to blast back | @imroy I doubt comments were ever opened. @h4ck3rm1k3 I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's a fluff piece to down play the importance and ability to create map data, similar arguments have been used to downplay the ability to create crowd sourced encycolpedia articles. "First They Ignore You, Then They Ridicule You, Then They Fight You" OpenStreetMap seems to have TomTom scared into releasing data more often, which is a claim most often made as to why OSM is better, so not much needs to be said in response. |
Queensland - Lowood, Tarampa and Rifle Range GPS tracing | Judging by what I've seen in other areas, hang gliding is usually an area, more than a spot, some times they show signs where approved landing areas and emergency landing areas are as well. If you know all that you'd probably group it all as a relation. |
Pre-Rendering Tiles with Mapnik | I just sent you an email offering to do your rendering for you... |

OpenStreetMap and Google MapMaker in Haiti | s/good/code/ |
OpenStreetMap and Google MapMaker in Haiti | @amm as more data is entered the number of contributors adding data and making changes will increase, although not at the exponential rates I keep hearing. @robert mixing data sets is what google does best, they probably already have good tested to import OSM data and given half a chance I have no doubt in my mind at all they would have it imported before end of business that day. |
OpenStreetMap and Google MapMaker in Haiti | @amm, even if PD is required after some event happens, what about all the existing data? Also I was reading a good summary of this situation on slashgeo.org: http://appdomains.slashgeo.org/article.pl?sid=10/01/22/1936242&from=rss even if the data was suddenly given out as PD and mapmaker imports it, it will potentially lead to parallel mapping efforts as mapmaker users improve on the new data and existing OSM users don't use mapmaker to continue making their improvements. |

Florida state roads now complete | In terms of reference tagging etc, did you see my custom highway page? |
