In this changeset, I actually also removed etymology tags. The reason is that they repeated the etymology for generic geographical terms (“guelta”, “sebkha”) over a hundred times and provided no information on the namesakes of individual objects. Systematically, this pretty much amounts to giving the etymology for the word “river” on every single river. See the wiki for the etymology tag: osm.wiki/Key:name:etymology

Flächen finde ich nicht so attraktiv, weil das Gebäude nicht völlig öffentlich ist und deshalb nicht so ohne weiteres gemappt werden kann.
indoor=yes würde Punkte akzeptieren. Andere POI-Typen kenne ich im Moment nicht – aber wenn dir was einfällt, mach ruhig!

Naja, ganz so explizit wollte ich zumindest es nicht machen. Er hat ja extra darum gebeten, dass man nicht ohne Einladung bei ihm auftauchen sollte.

I don’t think osm.org/way/530879432 is Oued Irrharhar (osm.org/relation/6532499). I originally put in I-n-dâladj (https://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/Dictionnaire_abr%C3%A9g%C3%A9_touareg-fran%C3%A7ais_de_noms_propres/Lieux/D#L_I-n-d%C3%A2la%C4%A1), and the Arabic names seem to be transliterations of the Tamahaq name.

C’est « intermittent=yes » que signale qu’ils sont des oueds pas permanents. La distinction entre « river » et « stream » (‹ ruisseau ›) signale leur largeur quand ils coulent. osm.wiki/FR:Key:waterway indique que « stream » signifie « Une personne sportive pourrait sauter par dessus » – je pense pas qu’on peut sauter Zazir quand ça coule …

Pourquoi dirais tu que Zazir et Anfedj ne sont que des « streams » et non pas des « rivers » ? Ce sont des grand oueds, et selon osm.wiki/Key:waterway « stream » est pour des « waterways » très serres.

Why would you say that Zazir and Anfeg are only “streams” and not “rivers”? They are large oueds, and according to osm.wiki/Key:waterway “stream” is for very narrow “waterways”.

My understanding is that tags don’t need to be approved by the sommunity before they can be used. Before I started using geonames:id, I found hundreds of uses via taginfo – which seems to be one valid reason to use a tag: osm.wiki/Tags#Finding_your_tag

I’m aware that no content may be copied from GeoNames to OSM – and I think I took care to never do that. I only created the links to corresponding GeoNames entries, without transferring information from there to here. It seems to me similar to Wikidata – a lot of Wikidata-IDs are used in OSM, but copying information is not allowed: osm.wiki/Wikidata#Importing_data.
(The keys geonames:name and geonames:population probably are a copyright problem, but I think I never used them.)

By the way, I used the geonames:ids to connect OSM features to a Tamahaq gazetteer (https://fr.wikisource.org/wiki/Dictionnaire_abr%C3%A9g%C3%A9_touareg-fran%C3%A7ais_de_noms_propres) for research purposes.

Das Tag war schon vorher in Verwendung – es sah für mich so aus, als sei der Großteil der Nummern schon eingetragen gewesen. Ich habe sie deswegen damals aktualisiert und vervollständigt.
