Acton and Pembrokeshire

Posted by POHB on 1 September 2008 in English.

Been a while since I bothered to diarise, but I just got back from a holiday in Pembrokeshire and have been able to fill in a lot more detail for The Havens area and a few other places.

While I was there I went on a few mountain bike rides, trying to stick to bridleways as marked on the OS maps (via tracklogs software) as much as possible. Mostly this was OK but there were several ways on the OS map that simply did not exist any more on the ground.

Before the hols I also went along to the Acton mapping party, named a few streets, met a few other mappers and had a few beers. Good to see you all folks!

Great to hear people are mapping Pembrokeshire, I've noticed in the past that it is somewhat lacking in detail. One strange thing I noticed is that Permbroke Castle has been mapped in great detail (far more than would be possible with a GPS), while the rest of the town is mainly blank. Does anyone know why?

"Ben" is shown in the history as having added the nodes. I'll ask him where he got the data.

So I asked him and he told me that he got key points with his GPS, then took lots of photos and worked it out from there. It was a challenge!
