Yeah, I know, I didn't expect I'd say this one day, but: Thank you, Microsoft! Thanks to your aerial photos I was able to map numerous vineyards, buildings and streets around Dettelbach and Schwarzach.

Hi,
since I haven't found anything suitable through many hours of web search I think I might find someone in here who can help me:
Does someone know freeware tools for WM6 that...
- replace the PDA's off button by a lights-and-touchscreen-off-combination? (to keep logging software running while the pda behaves as if it was off)
- keeps logging data from the gps continously in the background while saving from time to time? (no user interface needed, just log into one file per day or so)
Of course it doesn't matter wether this is achieved by one program or two separate ones..
I currently use NoniGPSplot, but it uses a lot of resources and switching the pda off usually kills the whole log, and keeping it on it will both keep the lights on (although dimmed) and accept user input, which is not good while in a pocket...
Thanks in advance,
Christian
- self-drawn schematic paper maps are impractical when you lose the overwiew over the area
- voice records might be my way to go in the future although they might attract looks...
- Near your home it may be an option to do the mapping work in a two-pass process: Tracking first, street names and other details afterwards (using the already osmarendered map to take notes)
So: Much work done today, even more remains to be done...
Now that I've been working on OSM for a few weeks it's time to make my first diary entry.
I mainly added some streets "framing" the town where I live and started detailed mapping on some parts of it.
The osmarender last week was a reminder to me to set street types... ouch, typical beginner's fault...
I hope this will be fixed next week, until then I might even be able to add some more residential roads and the outline of the rest of the town.
Only the current fuel prices (around 1.50 Euros per litre here in germany (or 62 us-cent per gallon)) keep me from adding some villages that are not even mentioned on the map...
