Which editor users are more likely to answer changeset discussions?
於 2017年九月 9日 由 RicoElectrico 以English發表。Much has been said about users of different OSM editor applications regarding their ability to respond to other users’ feedback about their mapping. But why not let the data speak for themselves?
Here’s a quick chart I made.
I used ChangesetMD to import data into Postgres database, where I did the analysis.

Thank you. The chart is a bit complex to grasp (willingness to reply in descending order: JOSM, Potlatch, iD, other editors, maps.me ), but seems to fit my own experience.

Well, there’s also another thing to consider - whose changesets are more commented on :) Should I just reorder the bars?

IMHO the number of total edits by editor doesn’t make much sense here: I would plot the responded% on the Y axis and optionally mark the edit number (if at all).
The other graph would perhaps be useful as well - but note that certain editors start discussions by creating a note (e.g. maps.me, StreetComplete).

If only OSM API has methods for changeset discussions and private message, so people with low engagement could participate.
Also, you should always sign your axes.

I don’t think there’s necessarily an expectation that users should answer changeset discussions.
Most of the changeset discussions I initiate are stuff like “Thanks for your contribution and welcome to OSM!” :)

Looking at my recent changeset discussions, they seem to be of the type “does this way continue somewhere/do you have any more info on this POI/are you sure this is on that side of the road/please don’t name your house My House”. While welcoming new users is surely a nice touch, I don’t see it as the main purpose of changeset discussions.

Hi RicoElectrico,
did you filter our the comments by woodpeck_repair, Nakaner-repair, SomeoneElse_Revert, Peda_repair and Stereo_repair? Their comments are mainly automatic comments by the revert scripts they use. These scripts automatically comment every reverted changeset. That’s why Pascal Neis filters them out at OSM Discussions.
Best regards
Michael
