Hi, this section is signed as M1 throughout. Not sure where you're getting the fact that this is the A1.

I didn't change Nabiac and Bulahdelah was built to motorway standards (the bit you're referring to isn't part of the bypass) – but as per that discussion I linked earlier it's been a long-standing practice to sign freeway-like dual carriageways in NSW as motorways for the good part of 18 years now and this change directly goes against it, but I'm okay waiting to see if this section ever gets upgraded to M1.

However, in the meantime, please keep Taree, Kew, Raymond Tce, Bulahdelah, and Karuah as-is as these are uncontroversially motorways.

This change directly goes against osm.wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines/Roads#Road_Hierarchy and what was agreed upon at osm.wiki/Talk:Australian_Tagging_Guidelines/Archive_1#Hume_Highway – at the very least I'm reverting the motorway-grade bypasses.

it's probably just me misremembering, but I thought the signs said 49 "to Wide Bay Hwy", not "to 49 Wide Bay Hwy"?

Hi, about "no current number assigned to Old Bruce Highway"; I was in Gympie last month and this short section of road seemed to have 49s on it (at least when headed southbound).

A tad late to the discussion but IMO trunk is also a better classification than motorway (which it's not).

Hi, are you sure that the track speeds are 80 km/h? Often lines will have a higher track speed, even if they're operationally limited to 80 km/h.

There was a long discussion on Wikipedia on this issue, before finally coming to the conclusion that it was a rapid-transit route. Ultimately, OSM isn't Wikipedia, OSM's policy on this per osm.wiki/OpenRailwayMap/Tagging is "Underground railway in larger cities, powered mostly by third rail. It has its own vehicles and signal system. Sometimes it also comes to the surface or is on an aerial causeway for a segment. Do not map ordinary railway, which goes partially underground, with this tag! (Instead, use layer=-1 or a "deeper" negative value and tunnel=yes). Subway/Metro is usually considered 'heavy rail' and is always distinct from 'light rail.'"

Agreed – while the road is technically a motorway (controlled access and two lanes each way), unlike this user's northern Memorial Drive change (which barely makes it per osm.wiki/Australian_Tagging_Guidelines/Roads), the speed limit is way lower than the rest of the POB Mwy.

I might be comparing this with the Anzac and Harbour Bridges in Sydney, but both have low speed limits (60km/h and 70 km/h) and the latter also has a tidal flow system, but are considered freeways. Feel free to revert my edit if you disagree, tho.

In saying that, I did find https://roads-waterways.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/01documents/m12-motorway/m12-motorway-community-update-2022-08.pdf, which also seemed to indicate that the M12 will be continuing south of Elizabeth Drive, but it too is likely copyrighted.
