164374024 | 4 months ago | As a side note, I do not like Telegram and prefer the forum. The forums are slower and more thoughtful, they're also permanent records that are more easily searchable, so they serve as a documentation while Telegram is ephemeral. Also, they have a URL, can be linked to, and aren't a walled garden. Telegram is also not fully aligned with OSS/privacy ideologies. |
164374024 | 4 months ago | Thank you for the input. You're right about the bulk edit guideline, and about the data now being part of OSM. Since I've been (almost) the sole editor of this region for quite a while, including the buildings, I felt at liberty doing this. But it should have been discussed first nevertheless. The inaccurate buildings a mild nuisance when I'm adding more accurate data that doesn't fit them, but since I have no particularly strong opinion on this , I'll simply perform revert. Does anybody have a problem with that? |
164374024 | 4 months ago | Both are valid points, but: The building mapping arbitrarily cuts off in nothern dalia and doesn't continue to Isfiya. I think this makes it less usable for calculations and misleading in visualizations. As for navigation, I do try navigation via osmand / Organic maps. The building density mid Dalia is high and the mapping is mostly plain squares, without addresses, to the point of them being mostly noise. I did keep prominent buildings that are actually good landmarks. In the outskirts where the buildings are sparse, a building can indeed be a very helpful navigational aid, even without an address, but this is actually the region least up to date since those areas got urbanized very rapidly. And in fact, having 1 building mapped when 3 are present in a sparse area can be confusing navigationally. This doesn't completely invalidate your points; someone doing some calculations for Dalia exclusively, not minding inaccuracies, might benefit somewhat, but it does reduce the usefulness. Personally, I think starting over while prioritizing notable buildings (sparse or prominent), for both Isfiya and Dalia, is the best course of action in this case. I think the best course of action is to gradually re-map, prioritizing the outskirts where buildings are serious landmarks, |
