OSM is indeed quite addictive (I still can’t figure if that’s a positive or negative thing). Just remember that everything you do is welcome, and everything you don’t do will be done by someone else (eventually).

And if you have questions, just ask.

3D drawing is in the lift, although still very experimental (and most of the time the programs are Linux only during development).

But I have to warn you, although it’s possible to do 3D renderings of buildings with OSM, OSM wasn’t meant to do this. So you won’t get the nice things you can make with SketchUp.

If you want to do 3D modelling, I suggest a tool like Blender. But that (on the other hand) has nothing to do with geographical data. Only with 3D renderings.

I also wanted you to point to http://indoorosm.uni-hd.de/ as it had the nice feature of 3D routing inside a building. But the 3D routing seems to be dead for now (at least on my computer). It was a nice feature when it worked.

Mais la discussion avant de accepter une tagging schema est bon. Parce-que, souvent, celui qui propose la nouvelle schema a oublié quelques choses.

Les mappeurs peuvent donc utiliser tout les tags, mais si on utilise les tags non-approuvée, c’est possible que ça cause des problèmes.

Bon, mon seul but était de clarifier comme ça marche aujourd’hui, et je veux vraiment pas participer dans une discussion sur le procès du vote.

Les conversations de OSM sont très dispersés. L’ancienne méthode pour demander de l’aide, c’était par utiliser les forums: http://forum.osm.org , mais maintenant, ce n’est pas utilisé beaucoup. On peut l’utiliser pour trouver les informations du passé quand-même.

Le tagging-schema de OSM est très ouverte. Chaque éditeur peut créer son propre tags. Mais généralement, si un éditeur veut que les tags sont utilisé en général, il doit soumettre une proposition ici: osm.wiki/FR:Creating_a_proposal et ne pas oublier d’avertir les autres par envoyer une e-mail a http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/tagging.

Après une période de commentaire et une période pour voter, le proposition peut être accepté.

Beaucoup des conversations se passe sur les mailing lists. Et souvent, il-y-a des discussions durs sur les listes. C’est un art afin de ne pas s’impliquer.

The CT says you will only add data of which you OWN the copyright, so if you find ODBL or CC-BY-SA licensed data, you can’t add it because you don’t own the copyright.

The CT also says that the OpenStreetMap Foundation has the power to change the license to whatever they want, whenever they want, if the licence change is supported by 75% of active mappers. And they are going to use this part of the CT to change the licence to ODBL.

I've corrected a lot of mistakes too, and I've always done it with pleasure.

When I saw a complete network added to OSM, but without any node connected, I contacted the user and told him what was wrong, then I used my experience to repair it with ease.

When I saw streets added with wrong tags (e.g. unclassified instead of path), I contacted the editor, told him what was wrong and corrected it.

I'm constantly guarding my own surroundings, and I try to help users when they make a mistake. But I always encourage them to keep editing, as that's the only way our user base will be big enough to keep the database maintained.

at the left, you should have a relation symbol. something tooth-wheel like, quite low in the list.

if you enable that, you will see a list with all relations in your dataset at the right (maybe it's collapsed). to add objects to the relation, just select them and use the "edit" button below the list (first select the right relation in the list too naturally). to add a new relation, you have a "new relation" button.

How is the data quality in China?

amenity isn't a good tag, the above is ok.

Amenity is meant for something worth visiting. A webcam (=the hardware) isn't worth visiting.

Roads and road names are very useful for navigation (routing software).

Names (on POI and streets) are important for the search engine to work.

And the most beautiful maps get rendered when you really add landuse data and other surfaces (like buildings).

So it's up to you what you want. In the beginning, it will go a bit together (you need the basic road infrastructure for all services), but after a while you can specialise on one thing, or try different things.

It doesn't make a lot of difference how you start, as OSM is a project that will continue to grow. So just do what you want to do. As long as you don't destroy other data, we're happy.

You're certainly welcome to do so.

There are lots of places in OSM with missing data, but you should only add data around regions you know. That's the only way OSM will become better then all other alternatives.

So if that's a place you know quite well, and if it has a bit of missing data, you're welcome to add what you know.

That boundary should be closed though. A boundary that just stops is not a good boundary.

If you add your information to the Wiki, it's there to stay (maybe you did, I didn't look for it).

Also, if OSM get accused, we can let the OSM Foundation down and take the data into a new project.

I don't believe anyone will use money with the current setup. We will just lose a bit of popularity (as our name will suddenly change).

Google also gets data from Teleatlas. Yet, Google has to pay, not Teleatlas.

I believe the same will apply to us.
