In rural southern Ontario, USGS Aerial Imagery is your friend | Ah, ok, here it is: osm.wiki/USGS_High_Resolution_Orthoimagery#Attribution |

In rural southern Ontario, USGS Aerial Imagery is your friend | The images are under PD, so no source is needed (or in other words, if you want to add a source tag, you may choose it yourself). |

Remapping Kristiansand | I’m aiming to have Ypres tourist ready before ‘14 (they expect a lot of tourists during the years ‘14-‘18. It’s going pretty well this far: osm.org/?lat=50.85029&lon=2.88673&zoom=17&layers=M |

found first main focus | May I suggest, when you add buildings, you also go out and try to add the address data? It feels so good when you enter an address in the search box and you see an arrow exactly at the house you wanted to search (contrary to Google search, who’s generally 100m off). At least, when they will start updating Nominatim again: osm.wiki/Platform_Status |

GPS Logger for Android recently became a very good OSM logger | Yep, it’s for different use cases. In Belgium, we don’t really have the need for traces without annotations as the areal images are great and well aligned. |
|
Need to edit but no aerial image | I’ve also mapped a whole year without images. It just prevents you from mapping outlines of buildings and areas (which make the rendering pretty), but it’s very feasible to add all features without outlines. When images appear, the outlines will be added pretty fast anyway. I’m not a big fan of Vespucci, at least for a phone, it’s not confortable to work on a small screen. I prefer annotated GPX tracks (e.g. with OSMtracker), and afterwards edit them on the PC. |

GPS Logger for Android recently became a very good OSM logger | Something I use a lot is photo mapping (easy with OSMtracker). I see this is still missing from GPS logger. (although OSMtracker is missing upload to OSM) |

OSM day one | Welcome to OSM. Some remarks:
Your edits are welcome, but please keep an eye on the quality. And if you have doubts, ask us. |
|
First Edit! | Cool, I didn’t know about the “disused” tag. @dhrasmus: As you see, it’s always the case like this when you do something on OSM. All edits are welcome and appreciated if they come from personal knowledge or surveying. But every edit can be done a little bit better. And you learn something new every day. That’s the fun of it ;) |
|
wtf | Someone likes tracks. That looks like a lot of work for you. Did you already contact the other mapper? |
|
First Edit! | Yep, you did right. Although I sometimes tag it as old_amenity=restaurant. This is to prevent someone else to add it again because he knows there’s a restaurant there. It requires the advanced mode of Potlatch, but your method is perfectly OK as well. Comments are not that important, and your comment is perfectly OK. There’s no way to edit a comment. But as long as they say something about the edit you’ve done, it’s a good comment. Even a comment such as “restaurant” or “Portland” would have been good. Welcome to OSM, happy mapping. |

Display of radio masts and radio towers on standard Openstreetmap maps | If you think rendering of the main map is wrong, you should put a bug report for the Mapnik team. |

how to search for user's edits in josm. | And sometimes you wonder why people introduce spaces in important names. |

Drawn my first road | Oh, and I forgot to thank you for your data. It’s always nice to see people from regions with bad OSM data getting active on OSM. |
|
Drawn my first road | I can’t judge classification or quality of roads (as I don’t know the road in real life) but I do see a little problem. Your ways are not connected. Although the ways are close to each other, they do not share a node. A routing app will not know that you can go from Sivagami Nagar, Third Street to Sivagami Nagar, First Street.µ To connect two ways, you should do the following:
Do this with all nodes that are connections between roads. If you’re doubting about classification of roads (I can’t help with that), it’s best to look at local documentation. So for you: osm.wiki/India:Tags/Highway Other documentation you might want to read is the beginner’s guide: osm.wiki/Beginners_Guide (mainly the part about editing maps and editing data) If you have questions, do send me a message. |

My entire neighbourhood is missing! | Welcome to OSM. When I started, my village only had half of the streets drawn. Now I’m finishing drawing the last houses (meanwhile did a lot of other places too btw). osm.org/?lat=50.93836&lon=3.07274&zoom=16&layers=M Happy mapping |

Redaction Bot | I’m surprised by my own country. Only two motroways have been deleted in Belgium, and a bit of geometry of other motorways adapted. Apart from that, nothing changed, and the motorways are already fixed again. We always nagged that we didn’t receive data from anyone, it looks to be an advantage now. |

Loving contributing OSM | Welcome to OSM. I really hope that OSM in India (or in the Orient as a whole) will one day be as complete as OSM in the west. If you know other tech-savvy people in your area, do share it*. I’ve seen some new faces around my region recently, and work is progressing fast here. You’ll notice, the more data is on the map, the more data will be added (it’s like a virus). *) With sharing, I don’t mean nagging, use OSM where you can, and if someone asks, tell what you know about it. Happy mapping, Sander |
