Here less than 5% (let alone 1%) of people will recognize it as OSM data.

OsmAnd+ is free on F-Droid so why bother wasting 40 bucks for it ☕️

Correction: 6~10 thousand active contributors on any given day

The thing is: OSM only has 6 to 10 thousand active* contributors, and most of them don’t have the motivation to map localities in detail.

*you often see a figure of 10 million users being spread around, but that’s the number of registered users on OSM.org, INCLUDING: -SEO spammers -people who do nothing but add notes or diary entries -people who touch OSM once -and make a single edit- and then never again

What about the description?

One time -out of sheer boredom- I wandered in the last few pages of the description=* tag on Taginfo …and I was met with an absolutely crazy description (which I’ve reverted since then), for a beauty salon that supposedly does pedicures, “medical spa services”, and even “breast enlargement” worded in a less appropriate way (I wish I was making this up)

What irks me is that not only is it a nightmare for screen readers (the emojis don’t help), but it feels copied from somewhere else; and why bother contacting the author about it since they’ve made a whopping 1 changeset in 2+ years

Also, with OsmAnd+ (or OsmAnd~ on Android, not on the Play Store), you get free hourly map updates if you made enough edits (30 edits per 2-month period IIRC)
