Ref label overkill | Its not that they are using the ref label too much its that the ways are split for no reason, I joined some of the ways where appropriate. A way should be split for physical changes (bridge, one way, number of lanes), I'd split a way at a county or state border too. |

Two Counties, One Road. | Certainly I'd use the alt_name tag as well, not sure how the left and right names would render, and as well how do you decide which gets that name tag and which the alt_name tag? I'd probably pick the lowest alphabetical 1st so in this case
But I do like Lezurdis' approach with the name:left, name:right tags too |

Updating Sisters, Oregon | Another thing is road names, more often then not national and state highways are missnamed, in Oregon they are Oregon Route XX, national names are
This wiki page has a lot of info;

New place Type | Wouldn't building=yes
imply exactly the same thing? |
|
Someone has vandalized OSM | Probably not vandalized but rather a dumb mistake looks like a few of roads were dragged over a few hundred feet to the west |

An elitist view towards mapping in the age of the internet. | Good thing I don't live in Florida, because I guess a broke a law, decided to clean up a bit of the area near the state capital. The streets are aligned pretty well just added some detail. |
|
Road Weary | I'd probably use reg_name for state highways, loc_name for county highways. Or of course name if it only has one name. ref would be its normal number, use nat_, reg_, loc_ when it may have two or more a good example would be an Interstate that is also a US Route... Fictitious examples
name=Bob's Road

|
More Newbie Road Madness | In this case I might label it as...
Other service tags; parking_aisle, alley |
|
How do I make buildings, parking lots, etc.? | Another useful site is this wikipedia page, it has the official names for various state highways; FYI: the official names for interstates and US Highways are ...

Pleasure Me Online: | Yah spam You'd think they would at least add their shop to the map, put in a phone and website tags there are tags for this thing already...
|
|
VFR aviation map | I'd say keep the runways as one segment, some good ideas... aeroway=runway ref=runway numbers 06/24
areoway=taxiway Taxiways have one track for the same taxiway
aeroway=aerodrome

Gold Croft CGHS Apartment Flat Dwarka | If you're going to leave spam, could you at LEAST map your area, put in the building names and addresses? Instead of taking from a community you can actually ADD to it. |
|
Here Be Dragons | You might want to use the construction tags... highway=construction
If there are barriers for example
And of course if its not open yet use the access tag

When 'connectivity fixes' aren't fixes. | layer= can help too, 0 is inferred and does not need to specified 0 ground

Project of the Week: Turn restrictions (my comment) | Before you add a turn restriction, you should consider using oneway=yes 1st. In those cases no restrictions are needed. |
|
Mapping large circular features | The Potlatch algoritm does a certain number of default nodes for a circle, you can add more nodes and will smooth the circle out a bit more. Of course your's is somewhat eggshaped so Potlatch wouldn't exactly fit your problme. |

pondering import of wind farms | You'd use the following for each turbine; power=generator

|
Hotel or Restaurant - which order? | A map is a representation of reality the reality is the hotel is in one spot the restaurant is in another. The typical hotel has a restaurant so perhaps label the building as a hotel. I'd treat this similar to a shopping mall, draw the building, then place a point for the restaurant at the appropriate spot, in a mall I'd do points for the anchor stores and food courts. |

Helipads. Useful for EMS Pilots | I added some information I found on 2NY5, however it looks like there is another ground helipad by Wilmott Cancer Center, I couldn't find out any information about that one though or the Geneva Hospital one though. |

War Memorials, Best Way to get a sane trace | Road name ... name=
You pretty much have to split a highway when the maxspeed changes, or lanes= changes or at bridges. Note ground is layer 0 not 1, tunnels are -1, a simple bridge is at layer 1 As well in the USA according to US DOT and ASHTO Interstates are named
