So i have loaded 5. ... but i think thats too many tracks. .. probably best to keep it at 3 and then a few hours later load another 3, as they get loaded. ..

I have created a folder on my computer which says which tracks have already been uploaded, as i am loading on tracks which were done 1 year ago.

If i was to look at a paper map, then i can see what the road names are. .. however, its probably best to just have it simple and marked as surface type, as thats what i remember for sure. I also remember where the turns were and how the roads went. .. This way someone can come along later and mark them, as a better base is built.
Fortunatly the major highways have all all been covered, so it now on to refining them.

You musn't use printed maps to get street names as that would (nearly always) infringe copyright, and defeats the point of making maps with OSM. You need to get street names by survey. If you miss one and can't re-visit, you can tag it with name "FIXME" to amke it obvious it needs fixing.

Ok.. sounds good. Thanks for the clarification.
So... Im just now looking at my raw track data that i just uploaded .. and is on my list to upload once the others are loaded.
Ie. Princeton, BC. I see that there are lots of points, and when i add in the lines between them, only for a few areas, its possible to recognize that it is a road / trail.

Its probably best to for now just leave those tracks and keep uploading the rest of the 'to be added' file to OSM (3 at a time) and concentrate on the map making where i am physically here.

This way, as i am planning on physically going across the country, if others already are mapping placed that i indent togo to, i already helped them out just by posting the raw tracks.

Then later, what I can do is draw in those roads and tag it as 'FIXME', but only to the visually most obvious roads/trails (on JOSM or Potlatch), as going any deeper would also not only infringe copyright... but increase the chances that the lines drawn were drawn with too much wrong detail. .. AND cause extra work for the person who comes along later to fix.

Appreciate the feedback,

:)

The Maplint overlay on the map shows roads without names as an orange highlight, with tiny writing (eg. residential-without-name). Might mean you don't have to add note=FIXME or similiar everywhere. Not sure what Maplint shows for non-tagged ways or highway=road (the new "I don't know the classification of this road" way). If away from a web browser & internet, I think the validator plugin for JOSM shows the same warning...
