Hi all,
I'm wondering if there is a maximum size for a route relation?

The Trans Canada Trail will be made up of Many Many Many sub- route relations, as that's what it is.
So far, with a quick search there is only a few segments of the trail with the name 'Trans Canada Trail'.

But that will change by the end of the year :)

Any ideas on how to tag better?

Thanks,
Sam Vekemans

There are no specified limits, however it is recommended to avoid them getting too large, otherwise you can find it will take ages for the server to respond with the answer. The recommendation is around 2000 items per relation maximum, ideally nearer 1000 items (which may be enforced at some point as there has already been some talk of doing so).
