Im adding more traces from Tracks that i did back in summer 2007, as well as from the tracks from the tctrail.ca website.
AFAIK, it's fine to trace. .. but i use extra caution, and tagged with the source, because i wasn't that person who made the tracks.

For the part that is shown on the map, it was some of my traces.. so now with 2 tracks, it helps with accuracy.

CanVec Import:
In this NTS tile area (082g12 cranbrook north) there are other trails which are available to import (hiking trails). ... i just havent imported them yet. Why? Because of the Bug 12 where the french translation doesn't how up right. (as little boxes characters) and also because its still in BETA phase with the other bugs.

Hey, does anyone have any objection to me using JOSM to upload the trails file??? as it really isnt THAT much data (just about as much as my manual editing)?? .. and also, the french for Trail is 'Sentier' (which doesnt have accents)
(and I could do so, using the Geobase:Acrosscanadatrails login, so it could be removed on-mass if needed. or just that import session would be removed if needed.

Thanks,
Sam Vekemans

Hi, you are right to be catious - you shouldn't upload these files unless you know what the source is. I couldn't find the right page on tctrail.ca but as it is a webpage with information about the Trans Canadian Trail, it's conceivable the GPX files are made by overlaying a map, rather than from a GPS. This would lead to licensed data polluting OSM. You should always make sure you know what the licence of any data is before uploading to OSM. If they are tracks recorded by other people, then with their permission I don't see any reason that they shouldn't be uploaded, if they can confirm the source.

Your own gps traces are great of course! :)

Can you point us to the source web page?

I'd be interested to hear other opinions.

Ya, i removed the Relation from the database (but kept a screenshot of what it looked like) incase i can add it again. :)

When i was tracing, ya it was only 1 track.. For the areas of Cranbrook that i back-tracked, i saw that with 3 tracks it's easier. So when i am physically there again, i can cover the whole route (that is signed) again, then actually post it.

I discovered that it's really the posted route details which are of value (route official name; number; distance; usage; date registered; overall grade; overall surface) which is valuable for all trail users.

I also have a hunch that Google Maps directions where used to 'correct' the origional tracks, (unknowingly that there is copyright on it). Also, the tracks that are from the tctrail.ca website do not contain elevation information. Just the origional track from the origional contributor should be used. (found where possible)

Fortunately, im doing my best to work with Trans Canada Trail to figure out the best solution.

Thanks,

I'm just thinking again about it. For those sections that i have actually traveled on. (I could keep the tracing that i did, provided i trace ONLY my GPS Tracks)

Do i just need to get permission to be copying the information which is provided on the website (source=link) ? (the tctrail:*=) tags
