Mapping Tofino... Garmin Map Points

thanks :) do you know what the tag for description is? So it shows under the name on the garmin?

I-17

Im trying to grasp the concept of using imported data. (as GeoBase isnt yet imported) which contains roads and road names of canada) .. is this Tiger Data imported as a JOSM layer? where you can go in and view the OSM stuff on another layer, then flip back (view/hide) the Tiger data to see where is missing, and what is more accurate?

Curious,
Sam

more mount doug (saanich, BC) mapping

spoke too soon, i just checked the discussion.. and it seems that its almost subjective. .. leading me to go in and correct the Canadian page so it makes more sense. The tracktype=grades 1-5 are confusing. (not confusing for me, but yes for others) .. so i'll need to rework it. .. most likely showing usage.. and stating weather or not bicyles can use the it. .. generally speaking foot travelers go anywhere bikes go... and stick to the far right when on any surface. .. the purpose is showing if moter vehicles are aloud, horseback, ATV's, Quads, moter bikes.

My routing is generally geared towards staying with the same surface type.. and having it consistent all the way though.. imagining i was on that type of bike or human power, and what surface i would like, when there are choices.

A little posting from co. Claire ireland and Princeton, BC

(Unfortunately i dont know Gaelic)
An open thought = Wondering if it is or should be International OSM standard to list on the attributes of the point where it shows the name of the the area, all the different spellings of the name from different languages. .. this way, it gets all directed to the same point on the map.?

5 tracks loaded and waiting

Ok.. sounds good. Thanks for the clarification.
So... Im just now looking at my raw track data that i just uploaded .. and is on my list to upload once the others are loaded.
Ie. Princeton, BC. I see that there are lots of points, and when i add in the lines between them, only for a few areas, its possible to recognize that it is a road / trail.

Its probably best to for now just leave those tracks and keep uploading the rest of the 'to be added' file to OSM (3 at a time) and concentrate on the map making where i am physically here.

This way, as i am planning on physically going across the country, if others already are mapping placed that i indent togo to, i already helped them out just by posting the raw tracks.

Then later, what I can do is draw in those roads and tag it as 'FIXME', but only to the visually most obvious roads/trails (on JOSM or Potlatch), as going any deeper would also not only infringe copyright... but increase the chances that the lines drawn were drawn with too much wrong detail. .. AND cause extra work for the person who comes along later to fix.

Appreciate the feedback,

:)

Sidney, BC Seaside Route

Thanks,
I went ahead and removed my underlay gps tracks. .. however it would probably be best to have those, and just not set to public. .
I added a pier... but i need to look up the name of the pier, and i think the appropriate location for that point is the middle of the pier. .. as so it wont be confused with something on the shore (which happens to be a eagle perch pole)
.. and yes, ill be looking deeper into the help about it. ...
and wow, this site is amazing!
I see someone is working on the road and street names.... iĺl check the local area map, and see where the ends of the trail meet the road. ..
As thats the connection to get back to the lochside trail.

Thanks for the help,
Sam
