@gileri, I’m not sure what’s going on here. You’ve got some ramblying long messages, and this is going off topic.

However, I must caution my LGBTQ+ people about the OSM Community Forum, and go against woodpeck & SomeoneElses advice. The CoC requires that you never name any action as homophobic/transphobic. It prohibits “Posting false or inaccurate information”, so you need to show that the action/person intended to offend you. (happened to me). This approach is alas common, and results in the silencing of marginalized voices. So you talk about LGBTQ* topic on the forum but be very, very careful about what you say. 🙂🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

The tone & words used in this diary is common when talking about diveristy within OSM(F). A 2020 petition signed by 2 current OSMF Board members, the organiser of this SotM 2024 and others, opened with:

There’s been a long history of people declaring “$OSM_EVENT is toxic and unsafe, I’m not taking part in it”. For Clara to say ”I’m not taking part in SotM” is not out of the ordinary within OSM

Are you using Linux? You can use systemd’s .timer to start a .service to do the build. It takes care of ensureing only one runs at a time, so you don’t have to deal with lock files. It also makes it very easy to stop future updates while not interruppting any currently running updates.

No, some of these examples predate that. I’ve been tracking it since November 2022, when Musk took over Twitter. Mastodon/Fediverse has often out performed Twitter.

I dunno. I don’t think there was any serious discussions on this (by this standard, we’ve also discussed mandatory gender quotas, suing Facebook, or making OSMF hats 🤣). It’s a big topic, with a lot of unanswered questions. e.g. Is one talking about some more people to do tedious paperwork (yes!), or hiring one’s mates from Oxbridge to create powerpoints about OSM 10 year strategic vision?

If you want a real mind bender, there are OSM objects where a version is created before a lower number version (like an object was created before it’s previous version)
