229498 | blennon | What is claimed to be St. Patrick's Footprint is carved out of the rocks just alongside the Springboards swimming area. Legend has it he stamped his foot on the rock when he heard that the people of Skerries had eaten his pet goat!! A more likely story is that in days gone by footsteps were carved out in memory of famous people (like the Hollywood custom). Of course, it could also be an accidental rock formation! The good saint was, it appears, a regular visitor to the island that now bears his name just offshore here. |
