I travel around a lot for a living and at the moment have to compare roads on paid for maps, against the OSM data and then plan a route in advance to take me along roads that don't yet exist in OSM so that I can record the trails...
This is a bit time consuming and relies on me knowing in advance where I'm travelling to during the day.
Has anyone got any idea if/how I can export large areas of OSM at different scales to OZI Explorer georeferenced tiff/jpg files so that if I am travelling in unfamiliar areas, I can map easily and explore areas which aren't yet mapped, to collect data on trails and then import back into OSM?
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris,
I haven't used Ozi Explorer before, but if I've read their website right, it looks like it can import garmin IMG maps:-
http://www.oziexplorer3.com/img2ozf/img2ozf.html
If this is the case, then you can grab openstreetmap maps that have been kindly converted into garmin IMG format here:-
osm.wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download
Then using img2ozf you should be able to convert that into a map that Ozi Explorer can understand.
If you're using a laptop / pocket pc there may well be other alternatives that you could use to Ozi Explorer if this doesn't work.

Hello,
I'm using the software www.glopus.de (it's in german). It can use vector maps (*.IMG and *.OSM) and raster maps. Very good to plan the travels for mapping.

btw, img2ozf turns images (.map calibration file of a .jpg image) and not Garmin's img files into ozi's proprietary format (.ozf3)

Thanks all, I'll have a play with that... .map and .jpg are better for me than ozf3 anyway (o:

I use OSMTileDownloader to create OziExplorer maps from OSM data.
