The Pimlico (not Vauxhall) mapping evening | Yet another reason why you shouldn't copy from Google Maps! I hope they don't make any of those silly mistakes in my area. |
Scanaerial needs coders, ideas & algorithms | It would be AWESOME if it could do TIGER fixup for you! (Just kidding) |
Adding landuse | Agreed. |
TIGER | Crap, we REALLY need to improve OSM!! If companies start to sell GPSs with OSM on it, people are going to be appalled at the lousy quality of the map. Let's all spend some time doing TIGER fixup--seriously! Then, and only then, can we focus on making the map look as good as it does in Germany or Britain. |
Street just changed from two way to one way | Not sure how to do this either. It has never occurred to me as an issue. |
A Brief Dalliance with Imports | The TIGER import is definitely a great example of an import that does not meet the precision that OSM is capable of. But the TIGER import was definitely worth it, though--what would the map look like without it? |
Dodgy Changeset | Appears that the user was just doing a test edit. Perhaps we need a "sandbox map" or something similar for new users to do test edits in. Wikipedia has a sandbox, and I suppose that could be very helpful in OSM. |
Ughhh | Dang, I've never had any error in P2 while trying to save and I've been using since it appeared on the edit tab. That's way better than the old version of Potlatch, which I would have errors while saving at least once a month. Nevertheless, I still try and hit that save button fairly often. |
Beginners Luck | You can't really "undo" a changeset, but you can always go back and fix any mistakes you may have made. |
somthing intresting | I like how everyone is commenting on the spelling errors in this entry and not on the fact that it is SPAM. So i'll comment and say: SPAM!!!! |
Lean muscle x | SPAM! |
Medians between 2-way roads | To do this, just make two parallel roads next to each other, both one-way. In Potlatch 2, there's an option to make a parallel way next to the currently selected way. To do this, just click "Make parallel" on the toolbar in the bottom right corner of the screen and then move the mouse to the area where you want the way to be. Then copy over the tags from the other way (hit the "r" key) and make sure both ways are marked as one way in the correct direction. Hope this helps.

OSM gets some new competition: Google Map Maker | @Vincent de Phily: Your ideas are great. I think we should incorporate all of them! There are a few other problems/ shortcomings with OSM, though, but those can be fixed quite easily. * We definitely need to increase awareness of OSM; we could easily do that by advertising on Google Maps. I think we need to advertise right at the bottom of Google Maps in the ad bar with something like "Tired of waiting for your Map Maker edits to be reviewed? Try OpenStreetMap." That would be a GREAT way to increase awareness for OSM. From there, it would just be "word-of-mouth." * We need a routing/ directions program on the main OSM webpage. There is only a search bar right now, but I'm sure a lot of people have created routing programs. We just need to pick the best one and post it on here. * We also need an app on smartphones so people can view OSM on their iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone, etc. I tried to view the OSM website on an iPhone in its Safari web browser, and it didn't quite display right--I couldn't even zoom in or move around. * Also, I've noticed a bug in Mapnik with displaying the layers for secondary, tertiary, residential, and trunk roads. Primary roads and motorways display fine, but we just need to fix the other roads. This shouldn't be that hard. * The map legend needs to be updated. I've noticed that a few features have changed their appearance recently (ie Military reservation and nature reserves), but the legend hasn't been updated to reflect those changes. Though these are a few shortcomings of OSM, I think that if the OSM developers just put a little time and effort into fixing these things, we would have a darn good map. I might write up something in my wiki with suggestions for improving OSM. |

OSM gets some new competition: Google Map Maker | @craigloftus do you mean that once you add the data in MapMaker, it becomes "owned" by Google and thereby copyrighted by them? |
Trimet's OSM Meet & Greet | This event seems to be really publicized. There were 4-5 diary entries about this; I even got sent a personal message about it even though I don't live in Portland, I live in Seattle (about 2-3 hrs North). But I agree with seav; I like the fact that govt agencies are supporting OSM. |
# one rival supported through back door? | Sorry, but your OSM wiki account is not the same as your account for the main OSM website. Also, OSM is in no way affiliated with Google. It has not provided any data to them, though Mapquest and Bing Maps both use our data in their maps. |
starting on hiking mapping | I've wanted to do this for quite some time, but I'll need a GPS |
My OSM article printed in local newsletter | A newspaper article in my newspaper The Seattle times is the reason I'm on OSM. Otherwise, I would have never heard of this awesome mapping feature. |
Attention Armchair Mappers! | I hope you leave VERY good descriptions of bugs in MapDust. Like if it's missing a speed limit, tell us what it is. I am sick and tired of poorly-explained or blank bug reports in MapDust! I once found a bug report in MapDust that was in the category 'other' and the description was "wwk." What is that supposed to mean? |
Google Map Maker comes to the USA | OSM is better! But the fact that a widely recognized company like Google is using our concept of providing open-source maps means that now we have more competition. We need to publicize OSM more so that it attracts more people. |
