osm license update | Apparently, you already accepted it. It says on your user page whether or not a user has accepted the new license. |
|
Do it right or not at all | That seems a little bit mean to say to someone. Rather, inform the user who created the way of their mistakes so that they will hopefully learn from it and do a better job in the future. Also, keep in mind that some of the roads may have been traced long ago when the satellite imagery was lower resolution, and the person may not have zoomed in that far (because it would have been all pixelated), thereby resulting in roads there being fairly “off.” Or, if there wasn’t even satellite imagery for the area, and they might have been using a GPS. Keep in mind that although GPSs are generally more reliable than the aerial imagery, they aren’t perfectly spot-on. In fact conventional GPS devices have a margin of error of several yards. Also, if you don’t like cleaning up after other users’ mistakes, don’t waste your time doing things you don’t like to do. There’s no need to let that get in the way of what you are really interested in doing. |

License change over | Another question: If people haven't decided whether or not to accept the license by April 1 (if they've stopped editing OSM, for example), do we have to replace their data too? Will that also get deleted? |
|
License change over | Because of OSMF's failure to come up with a satisfactory license, many people have declined it. And those of us who accepted the license are, in a way, being "punished" because we now have to waste time redrawing the red nodes and ways instead of actually improving the map! |

Home | Yeah, you really shouldn't put your address on here for the whole world to see. |

Glue Sniffers | I agree with "El Segundo can't win," it can create a total editing nightmare when landuse boundaries are joined with roads. Same with parks, cemeteries, golf courses, etc. But you can make landuse tags extend over both sides of the road if you're mapping a something like a big housing development, shopping center, or business/ industrial park/ company headquarters--anything that is actually named. Also agree with "emj" entirely, landuse=forest can extend over both sides of a road that's in a big forested area. |

New about JOSM "bug" - it is "silent" ban from OSM? | The servers must have been grumpy and lazy for a week. Maybe they didn't like you. |

Hmm.. Just a quick update on a quirk in mapedit. | The first time you click save, it will of course let you type in a description of what changes you're making and it creates a changeset (aka change-log). But when you save again, it saves your changes to the same changeset, unless you press the "c" key to close the changeset, as TomH mentioned. Btw you don't have to describe what you edited, but it's a good idea as it gives others a general idea of what changes you made. |

What's the point of all the TIGER tags? | For all those who are wondering what TIGER is: TIGER is an import of all the roads in the USA. It's public domain and is used by the government for collecting census data. However, it is REALLY inaccurate and requires some tedious work to align the roads to satellite imagery (this is called TIGER fixup). For more info and a complete description, see osm.wiki/TIGER and osm.wiki/TIGER_fixup |

Lake Shore Drive | That might be the speed in kilometers. If you change it to mph, say 55, put in "55 mph" in the maxspeed= * tag. |

Is this for real? White spots on the GPS coverage | Really now? Really? I can't believe the FCC could possibly let this happen. |

Inactive users | Yes, there are SO MANY inactive users in my area! |

Why so many airports in NZ? | It seems that a lot of the airports on OSM don't even exist or may have existed at one time and don't exist anymore. Don't be afraid to delete any airport nodes placed where there doesn't appear to be any sign of an airstrip on the satellite imagery. |

Off to State Of The Map Denver ...and the pub tonight | @nmixter: Totally agree! I hope this will cause OSM data to significantly improve as a result of the SOTM being in Denver. |
|
Smile! | I had to click "Edit" and see if this was actually in the satellite imagery or whether someone got bored. |

Getting rid of SPAM | I think that any user should be allowed to mark a user diary entry as spam by clicking a link in the diary entry. If enough people click that link (say 5), then the entry will be removed. |

Improving my home town map | OSM has a long way to go before it can be deemed reliable enough to be used for routing everywhere. |
