Kismet-NewCore | Parsing .GPSXML to .GPX

Hi everyone,

Like I wrote on my last post, I was able to take quite a few hours and do a lot of mapping. Even though I have the information, I have no way of converting it to GPX, so I can upload it.

Since Kismet changed to the new core, the existing scripts (available on the Wiki) don't seem to work anymore.

My question is: Do you know of any script to convert .gpsxml to .gpx?

Thank you.

Feels good to be back

For a while, I've been away from OSM and my mapping activities. Hopefully, this will change in a very near future.

It would be better if I didn't had this much free time (I would still have my job?), but since I do, I'll try and make the most out of it, because I never know when I'll be back at a dead-end job.

I'm planning on taking a long drive along the island tomorrow afternoon with Kismet running, and the laptop plugged in to the car lighter.

I'm convinced I'll upload some significant GPX tracks tomorrow night.

TrekBuddy Atlas Creator

I've been playing with my HTC Magic, and I recently found what it seems to be a very good way to pre-generate maps to use with AndNav2:

TrekBuddy Atlas Creator, available at http://trekbuddyatlasc.sourceforge.net/, is a Java-based map generator that allows me to generate maps and copy them to my SDCard.

I haven't done much with it yet, but from the simple test I did, it seems to work very well.

Has anyone had any experience with this application? Any recommendations for Android OSM software besides the one mentioned on the Wiki[1]?

Updating JOSM on Ubuntu

In a recent discussion with a friend, he told me he still used JOSM v20080713 because that was the version that was pre-compiled and packaged for his distribution version.

Since old versions have some serious problems with the more recent version of the API, I thought I should write this small note to refer to on future cases.

Installing with a package manager is recommended, so you don't have to worry about dependencies, but once that is done, an update should be made.

- Updating JOSM -

* Download tested or latest version of JOSM (wget http://josm.openstreetmap.de/josm-latest.jar)
* Rename it to josm.jar (mv josm-latest.jar josm.jar)
* Move it to /usr/share/josm (sudo mv josm.jar /usr/share/josm/)

#osm-changes on OFTC

I'm currently playing with the idea of having an IRC bot displaying several OSM-related feeds. Current feeds include user diaries, blogs.osm.org, GPX Uploads, discussion lists and some others.

It also does Bug Tracking for OSM and several other FOSS projects.

If you want to give it a try, drop by #osm-changes on irc.oftc.net.

TangoGPS to GPX

I had no idea that TangoGPS didn't save the traces on .GPX, and I went to play with it for a while. When I got home I noticed it saved everything on .log, and even though gpsbabel can probably convert it to GPX, I found the following script to be easy and with very good results.

For everyone playing with TangoGPS, the OSM Wiki had the answer:

osm.wiki/TangoGps

Haven't tested cgpxlogger yet. Any recommendations?

Changes!

It's been a while since I wrote something here, even though mapping hasn't stoped.

I recently moved out of Odivelas in the mainland, which was a place I was actively working on, to the Azores. An archipelago with close to none presence on OSM.

I plan to map the entire island, and with the help of some new work colleges, we'll have it done in a few months.

To help me on this, I bought two nice GPS trackers. The GlobalSat BU-353 and the BT-338, bought with the SiRF III chipset. gpsd liked them both!

I'll keep this weblog more active from now on.

Hello world

Hello fellow mappers,

I'm a 20-something happily married geek living in Portugal (Odivelas - Colinas do Cruzeiro to be accurate), and I've just started my contributions to OSM. Even though I may have started late, I plan to make for loss time, and map as much as possible on my every day routines around Lisbon.

I'm using my cellphone (Nokia E71) with Nokia Sports Tracker. The correct version (I was told to install this one) currently installed for this model is:

"Nokia Sports Tracker for S60 v3.1
Supported phones:
Nokia S60 v3.1 devices (N76, N81, N81 8Gb, E51, 5700, 6110 Navigator, 6120, 6121, 6290)"

Been working like a charm.

See you all soon.

For those living close to me (there are quite a few), a mapping party is always welcome.
