East Northants...and a bit of Peterborough

Publicado por grebble em 11 junho 2009 em English.

Really enjoying doing my bit for mapping this part of England that isn't particularly well covered by OSM. I was in Kettering yesterday so took the opportunity to trawl the shopping streets in the town centre. I'm slowly getting the missing rural minor roads mapped, and taking short detours on my way home from work to get Thrapston done.

I work in Peterborough and that area is quite well covered, but there still is the odd footpath near my office that I can do during the lunch hour. I noticed also that the suburbs have been tagged as 'townships' - not a valid tag as far as I can see, which is why they weren't being rendered.

Wellingborough desperately needs looking at, at the very least the major roads into the town need travelling and classifying, which I will do when I am in the area.

Definitely should have found this earlier and got involved! :-)

Excellent! OpenStreetMap is certainly in need of some more detail in this part of the UK. I chipped away at Northampton a couple of times when visiting, but it's still scoring big on the UK Mapping Priorities. You're right, Wellingborough has even less detail. We should probably sketch in some landuse=residential grey blobs based on landsat, to help visualise progress, but ultimately we'll need people like you to get there on the ground and survey these places.
