Some things might seem self-explanatory, but have certain quirks that are agreed upon by the community. Another useful reference is osm.wiki/Good_practice. In particular, you might want to look at "Keep the history" -- for example, to improve the geometry of the road we should adjust it in place, rather than deleting it and recreating it.
