Hi Emmanuel, what's the reason for tagging this address node with level 1? Is this address upstairs only?

71582747 about 6 years ago

There are many...

osm.org/node/2348727691
osm.org/node/2524539379
Cuisine changed from "coffee_shop;sandwich" to "coffee_shop". Different Starbucks have different food offerings which vary from store to store. These two I surveyed in person but the details can also be seen in the "Amenities" section of each location's web page. Setting the cuisine to "coffee_shop" is great for a Starbucks that does not have a cuisine tag, but if cuisine is already tagged and is not patently incorrect, please don't override it without surveying or discussing.

osm.org/node/6306935877
Takeaway tag changed from "only" to "yes". This location only offers takeaway.

osm.org/node/6177318443
osm.org/node/4193993228
osm.org/node/4194156006
osm.org/node/2568849012
These are pharmacies whose names were changed from, for example, "Rite Aid Pharmacy" to simply "Rite Aid". That might make sense, because the shop is much more than just a pharmacy. But each of these was pharmacy department mapped as a separate node inside a way representing the larger store. Reason being, they have different hours, different services, different names (eg the sign inside says "Rite Aid Pharmacy"). Sometimes these pharmacies also have different operators and contact information from the stores they're in. One of the ones you changed is a Wallgreens Pharmacy inside a Duane Reade. (osm.org/way/617474312). It's not a Walgreens store inside a Duane Reade, just the Wallgreens-branded pharmacy.

osm.org/node/5742310959
osm.org/node/5676615651
These are independent fast food restaurants that have been tagged with brand info for national chains. They're not related to those chains.

There may be more. One of the other problems here is that there are so many changes at once that it's hard to QA them properly, and impossible to know what's been changed based on actual knowledge and what's been "fixed" by iD.

Please use iD's validator with caution -- its suggestions are just that, suggestions, not gospel. Blindly trusting them will add incorrect (and remove correct) information from the map.

Thanks, Jason

Hi mapmap44, just noticed this changeset. I'm guessing that all of these changes were suggested by iD's validation feature, is that correct?

Thank you! I've updated the website and phone and removed some of the old irrelevant Holiday Inn tags.

Ok thanks, I've reconnected.

Gotcha. I've done a few of these 3D buildings based on data and zoning diagrams from the NYC dept of buildings -- but it's kinda labor intensive. You did so many at once I thought you might have a secret.

Hi tylerchill, thanks for your contributions in LIC!

In this changeset you deleted the node osm.org/node/3205304016 which connected the pedestrian stairway from the Pulaski Bridge walkway to 11th Street. Was this intentional? Is there something blocking the connection between the stairs and 11th Street?

Thanks, jmapb

wetland! now that's funny...

HI nihombashi19, thanks for your contributions in NYC.

I see you changed the name of this building ( osm.org/way/266170597 ) from "Holiday Inn Express" to "Citadines connect".

Is "Citadines connect" the new name of the hotel? (That is, it no longer says "Holiday Inn Express" on the outside?)

Or maybe it's a separate company that rents some rooms from the Holiday Inn Express?

71746067 about 6 years ago

Hi JessAk71, just wondering where you're getting the data for all these building details?

71577389 about 6 years ago

Hi red_clover! Thanks for adding this.

Nothing wrong with building=container. (In fact I could have sworn I've seen it documented, but I can't find it in the wiki.) I've generally seen it used for individual containers, not a row of containers, but personally I don't see any problem with this usage.

I've fixed the shapes a little, added estimated height the buildings, and changed your marketplace POI node to a POI area that contains the entire site. I also moved the name to the POI area, since it applies to the entire place, not just to the buildings themselves.

( osm.org/changeset/71611705 )

Let me know if you have any questions, happy mapping, J

Hi chachafish -- some of the building's you've tagged as house or detached are actually multi-family apartment buildings -- osm.org/way/249948749 for example.

Hi Elizabeth.. please review my comments on osm.org/changeset/71020462 and please stop adding these spammy tags, especially after the local community has made it clear that they are NOT WANTED!!!

71418674 about 6 years ago

Hi again Jamie -- can you please describe what you're trying to do here? And where you're getting your data?

Thanks, jmapb

71362387 about 6 years ago

Thanks yaswap. Consider in the future using a more descriptive changeset comment so we know what the intent is. In this case, something like "Add turn restrictions at intersections of Utica Ave with Eastern Parkway and Eastern Parkway service roads."

Also please add a "source" field for your changesets, so we know where you're getting your information. In this case at least one of your turn restrictions was incorrect and has already been deleted (see osm.org/changeset/71391444 ). If you're taking information from a source that's out of date, better to find that out sooner rather than later.

Thanks, J

Sorry to say that it's not permitted to take info from Google Maps and add it to OSM -- Google's license does not allow this.

See osm.wiki/Legal_FAQ#2a._Can_I_trace_data_from_Google_Maps.2FNokia_Maps.2F....3F

Are any of your other changes based on Google data?

Hi Jamie -- what's the source for these Gowanus boundaries?

71362387 about 6 years ago

Hi payelgh -- any particular reason for adding this node and bending Eastern Parkway? Is there a new road geometry that's not indicated by aerial imagery?

71357869 about 6 years ago

Hi Lucila -- could you describe the source you're using for the names and boundaries of these landuses?

Thanks, jmapb

71104035 about 6 years ago

HI Dariaa_P -- you've been creating a lot of named landuses in NYC. Just wondering what the source for these names and boundaries is?

Thanks, jmapb
