Updates to Palmyra and Deir Ezzor | dankarran how can a street name be copyrighted? i can understand not using the map to trace the streets, but using the map as a reference to the street name... that information is public domain. that's like saying that a reference to an M10 screw taken from a patent drawing is infringing on copyright... which is rubbish. but then, i'm not a laywer. also, there's no reference to copyright on the map... not that I'm tracing it. regards... |

Updates to Palmyra and Deir Ezzor | puetti thanks for the feedback. i use the cloudmade maps... and like i mentioned, the maps that i make with the data using mkgmap work with RoadTrip fine, but not on the device which implies to me the issue lies with the Garmin device's handling of the map data. i have to use mkgmap to make the data so that i can use the name:en keys instead of the default name key (where it's been input) otherwise the writing is in arabic which is of no use to me. regards... jonny |

Naming cycle routes | nice map! we've got a long way to go in syria before they start looking as good as these! that's exactly what i meant. i'm trying to use the lcn_ref but i don't get the sub keys come up like they do in this map? will wait and see how it looks when the render is updated... |

Mobile phone towers | Guys Thanks for the feedback. The mobile phone towers in the desert are generally pretty big. They're set about 500 m from the road and are to give road coverage so have to be pretty big so that they only have to build one every 20km or so. I'd say they're 20 to 30m high. So you can imagine they're pretty visible from the road and good markers. |

Damascus Sheraton | hi there metehyi you're right, it could become crowded with dual language "name" tags (although the way the map filters on zoom level seems to work quite well), but if "name:en" and "name:ar" are used it shouldn't get cluttered since only the "name" key is displayed and hopefully in the future we'll be able to choose if we want "name:en" or "name:ar" only displayed? cheers... |
