Getting going

goodstuff I added a few thing in that area from sat pictures a few months back, good to see a man on the ground there now.

First intro

welcome, I have the osm on my phone now from today. using mgmaps

More about JOSM spelling

I used "ave" a few times in the past... I think I know where they are :)

Hiking Trails & Mountain roads

No probs, I was using highway=gate but I have now started using the new tag Barrier=gate, my thinking is a highway can be a road or track but never a gate. :)

Hiking Trails & Mountain roads

the roads in the mountains are they not best tagged as tracks highway=track and tracktype=grade 1 to grade 5 ? I am mapping using this tag a lot of forest tracks in Scotland which are only for the use of forest vehicles, but you can walk on them and use a bicyle on them and have locked gates. hope this helps

When should you add a path at the side of a road?

the rule I follow is that if the path is right next to the road, then I dont add it, but if theres a grass verg or path takes a route away from the road I add it in. Elgin place coatbridge shows this well

Longstanton by-pass, Cambridgeshire

yeah I noticed Crawford South lanarkshire render up early I hit it last week to late for the wednesday update but it is now there.
Wonder what they will do with the old By pass

LS16 8DU is wrong

welcome along :)

End of surveying season for me

even when I dont have my gps with me I am still noting pub names bus stop atm ect places to add when I am out and about

Would like to start - Need a handset

I am using a satmap, satmap.com , its not the cheapest out there but its pretty powerfull,

Glentress cycle networks

good stuff I just added my mega walk just upthe road from there at Broughton, which is a walk over the 13 highest Broughton Hills, great day out.

OpenStreetMap routing service

works well and pretty fast too.

Big red postboxes

and dont forget toilets :)

Amazing GPS Visualisations from BBC's "Britain From Above"

yeah and theres a program starting this sunday 9pm on bbc1 to watch too

new to this, if and how to postprocess

I also dont trust the first 5mins of my gps traces to be 100%, as the gps is still finding its feet

na

yeah I had to move railway lines about 10m in Coatbridge and add one railway line which even the os does not show, so OSM shows that railway line and does show the railway to Larkhall which is not on any other maps yet.

Emirates Stadium

good stuff, and I now see my local teams not on the map... another gps trip to plan and grab the rest of that side of coatbridge while am at it.

Waypoints instead of Track

It seems ok for me :) ,it maybe that the server or your internet connection is taking it time in sending you the rest of the ways and tracks when you goto edit.

Fixing and Brantford

yeah I have noticed that too, when you first turn on the gps the first few minutes the data is not great, I now dont use the first few minutes of data,

Survey vs tracing

well I traced roads from the yahoo sat pics, I am now tracking the roads with my Satmap(gps) and yeah agree its good to get a road onto the map with a trace from the sat pics, but you cant beat going down the street for real.
