OSM uses the “on the ground” principle, referring to who has control of the area, rather than using any one group’s borders, for disputed areas. See osm.wiki/Disputed_territories and https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/w/images/d/d8/DisputedTerritoriesInformation.pdf.

Sorry, what is mentioned on this link is theoretical, the SADR is only a group of mercenaries supported militarily and financially by Algeria and who sequester a defenseless population, this part is a buffer zone monitored by MINURSO and Morocco does not let anyone enter it, the latest actions on the ground prove it.

Let me get this straight: You’re saying that they do not have on-the-ground control of the area they’ve been given on the map? Just be succinct about it, no need to use buzzwords

Hello melo_mo,

The current mapping in this area is the result of a community discussion, which resulted in https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=606038#p606038 back in 2016..

If you think that the current mapping is incorrect or the situation have changed, then please do discuss with the rest of the OSM community - at the moment, the main talk list https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk is probably the best place to do that. Although a few people have have commented on this diary entry, not everyone will see it.

Best Regards,

Andy Townsend, on behalf of OSM’s Data Working Group.
