Thank you for beeing so nice and charming. If you have any knowledge on the current assignment of tracks to the different operators and subdivisions, feel free to adjust the relations. I don't have this knowledge. The track layout was sometimes changed radically, so the assignment is not obvious.

Hi Benny, what is the purpose of having separate relations per track?

This issue is not important to me. You may change it to whatever you want.

Emporia Subdivision has between 1 and 5 main tracks. I don't see any purpose in creating separate relations for the different main tracks, as most only exist as several short and independent sections. E.g, MT3 on Emporia Sub exists in Kansas City around Argentine Yard, in Gardner to and from BNSF Logistics Park, in Emporia to and from Emporia Yard and in Mulvane. I added all 1 to 5 main tracks to one Emporia Subdivision relation.

Apparently, NS (Kansas City District) and BNSF (Marceline Subdivision) share each other's Tracks between W.B. Junction and C.A. Junction. My idea was, to show this situation by adding the tracks to both relations.

Micha

Hello Andy,
I've found these places automatically by overpass. I searched for contradictory tagging which cannot represent any possible real object.

Afterwards, I've used aerial imagery to check wether these objects are monorails or railways (as they were tagged) or just simple crane rails as part of a mobile crane.

In my understanding, this was not a mechanical edit. If I am wrong, please leave a notice.

regards,
Micha

Oh, it is complicated... This is a categorization which always exists (at least on paper) - service=yard - only shunting is allowed, service=siding (regular) train running movement is allowed as well.
It is unfortunately not always definitely visible in nature.

E.g.
main signals or distant signals beside the track -> service=siding
any equipment of a train protection/warning system (in UK AWS/TPWS/ETCS) -> service=siding
derailer on the track -> service=yard

osm.wiki/Key:sidewalk says "Synonymous with no. no is preferred, despite this tag being in wide use." This should be changed, if this is not correct...

The tag names usage and service are a little bit misleading, as they indicate infrastructure properties and do not depend on what trains actually run on this track. Usually, you can guess them correctly with a look on the track layout, railway equipment (signals, platforms, flank points, ...) and (general) knowledge of railway operation. The connection of between the railway lines in Matlock is a corner case, I added therefore a note on this.

Hi Andy,
according to osm.wiki/Key:footway and osm.wiki/Key:sidewalk the situation is as follows (the JOSM data validator pointed me at this):

sidewalk=* and footway=* differ in their purposes: footway=* is combined with highway=footway (mapping footway/sidewalk as separate way), sidewalk=* with any other highway=* (footway/sidewalk attached as tag to highway)

sidewalk=no is preferred

Please leave a note, if I am misunderstanding anything.

I'm not shure about way 359980268 (I don't know the location of the border between "normal" and heritage railway). Because of that, I did not change the railway=rail/railway=preserved tagging there, but just the service=/usage= tagging.

Greetings,
Micha

Please do not use usage=high, the correct tagging for highspeed lines is usage=main & highspeed=yes.

See osm.wiki/Key:usage or osm.wiki/JA:Key:usage and osm.wiki/JA:Key:highspeed for more information.

Sorry for the mistake and thank you for the information. I reverted the two ways back to your version.

I should check more thoroughly, when doing "armchair mapping".
