The United Nations has a working group that addresses how to romanize place names written in another character system. This might be of interest for those adding to openstreetmap in a non-roman character system.

The Norwegian Department of Justice suggests NOT to release public-funded map data in the public domain, in a new law that has been available for comments until November 1st. The department will now review the comments and possibly make amendments to the new law. The department aims for the new law to take effect from January 1st 2008.

Different parties in Norway have commented on the proposal and suggested that the map data be released in the public domain. Hopefully, this will be taken into consideration when the final law is written.

I've been on holiday earlier this summer in Madeira and recorded some tracks there that I've uploaded. They are mostly from Funchal, but also some roads around the island. I have traces some of the roads but not all.

For those wondering, the easiest way to view your changes to the map quickly is to go to http://www.informationfreeway.org/. Press the plus in the upper-right corner and choose "tiles@home (direct)", 2nd entry. now you can zoom to level 12 and control-click any tile and it will get updated.

You may then need to empty the browser cache to re-download the tile.
